Single-payer system would improve health care economics (barf alert)
stl today ^ | April 29th 2018 | Larry Bowman

One of the top issues for U.S. voters is health care. There is a simple solution most of the world is smart enough to recognize but is lost on us: a single-payer system.

There are two compelling reasons for a single-payer system. The first is the moral argument that health care security is a right for all of us. The second is a little more complicated, and that is health care economics. Sadly, most Americans do not understand this aspect of the health care debate and how it adversely affects them.

Anthem announced its first-quarter profits to be $1.31 billion. The reason for the increase from the previous quarter was lower medical costs. The couple who had their claim denied for the helicopter ambulance might find this interesting as well as the numerous people who had claims for emergency room visits denied.

If you have private insurance, approximately 70 percent of the premiums go to provide health care and 30 percent go to the overhead costs of the insurance company to include profits which they enhance by denying claims like yours. If we had a single-payer system, the overhead costs would be less than 5 percent, and 95 percent would go to actual medical care. The Republican Party, which is owned by the insurance companies, calls this socialism. I call it good economics.

The advocates for insurance companies argue that we cannot pay for this. I would argue that we already are. In fact we pay double what many countries pay for less beneficial outcomes.

Finally, the Republicans passed a huge tax cut for American businesses so that we could better compete with foreign companies. Imagine how much better our companies could compete if they did not have to pay for their employees' health care insurance. Their foreign competitors don't.

Canada has the worse system out there .
If you complain or go to the US for treatment and they find out .
You are punished and then denied care .
Canada is a evil vindictive system .

Canada will let you die slowly if you have cancer and you hit a certain age .
We have helped relatives get care here that was denied in Canada based on age .

Most those countries you listed the system denies you care
Unless you have the perfect demographic and can survive the wait to get treated . Like cancer .

Most op for private hospital care and pay out of pocket . Canada is one if the few that bans private hospitals . Awful health-care system .

Horseshit....it works.....provided it is introduced incrementely....cannot ram it down the public throat.....in Canada it took 10 years to fully transition. It is still being tweaked and is far from perfect but nobody falls through the cracks and nobody fears financial disaster. The system is now becoming much more pro-active, preventative and innovative. All the whoohaw about Canadians being forced to go to the US for treatment is more B.S. ...they do for medically elective health care treatment like plastic surgery or hip replacements. However those requiring urgent care get it when needed...it is the law.

It becomes healthcare for the elites and second class care for the serfs .
Most of the patients are Govt elites who run away from the system they
Oversee .
Isn't socialism .
Just like in Animal Farm .

You call hip replacements elective?

Aww, you know, elective surgery like cancer, kidney stones, back surgery, cataracts, stents, bypasses - we go to the US for that and pay US rack rate prices . . .

Everybody I know who got a hip replaced did it as a last resort and lived through the rehab too. Knees too.

It doesn’t work, in the UK either. Works for Deadpool and Superman.

Obama care was a poorly thought out hybrid hastily implemented and was politically motivated...not a good idea.

Will all health care providers accept the amount designated by the government? (See Medicare/Medicaid)

Sounds perfectly logical and conservative to me. And it fits with this:

‘’Free Republic is a site dedicated to the concerns of traditional grassroots conservative activists. We’re here to discuss and advance our conservative causes in a more or less liberal-free environment. We’re not here to debate liberals. We do not want our pages filled with their arrogant, obnoxious, repugnant bile. Liberals, usurpers, and other assorted malcontents are considered unwelcome trolls on FR and their accounts and or posts will be summarily dismissed at the convenience of the site administrators.”

The first is the moral argument that health care security is a right for all of us.

there is no divine right to enslave doctors

Get a grip. The OP included a “barf alert”. He was not endorsing the SP system. It is a good idea to know how people advance arguments in favor of it.

The second is a little more complicated, and that is health care economics.

When health care is "free", there is a negative effect on quality and quantity of service, absolute total cost, aggregate demand for health care, supply of doctors. Taxes, creation of money out of thin air, gov. borrowing go up to pay for it.

it works probably if the entire country were lets say Amish.
It starts falling apart the more third world “diversity” you import as the UK is finding out.

this article proves that the Mississippi River is hopelessly polluted with chemicals that destroy human cognitive abilities.

Unless, of course, it is something in the air . . .
