Texas Republican Party Endorses Marijuana Decriminalization
Forbes ^ | June 16th, 2018 | Tom Angell

Delegates at the Republican Party of Texas convention on Saturday voted to approve platform planks endorsing marijuana decriminalization, medical cannabis and industrial hemp. They are also calling for a change in cannabis's classification by the federal government.

"We support a change in the law to make it a civil, and not a criminal, offense for legal adults only to possess one ounce or less of marijuana for personal use, punishable by a fine of up to $100, but without jail time," reads one of the party's new positions.

"Congress should remove cannabis from the list of Schedule 1," says another.

A third asks lawmakers to expand an existing state law that provides patients with limited access to low-THC medical cannabis extracts so that doctors can "determine the appropriate use of cannabis to certified patients."

And a fourth says industrial hemp is a "a valuable agricultural commodity."

That the official GOP organ in a red state like Texas would voice support for such far-reaching cannabis reforms is the latest sign of how mainstream marijuana has become in American politics.

People, at large, won’t be able to handle it. Mandatory drug testing for welfare would be needed.

Good luck with all that.

Bikk, it's great to see you my good FRiend :)

To me I would just follow the precedent set by alcohol, if states are legalizing that is fine, but if some places don't want to they have the right to not to allow it to be sold in their state or county as well.

I hope you are doing well :)

“So, you want to drive the streets with dopeheads? I don’t.”

I dont like driving the streets with people that drink either.

Tell me how we deal with that? And can I count on you to make the push to ban the making and consumption of all alcoholic beverages?

And since “gun laws” dont stop murder, why on Earth do people on FR think these pot laws are actually stopping people that want that stuff from getting it and smoking it?

People, at large, won’t be able to handle it.

I'm imagining people flipping out on every street corner while screaming satanic gibberish at telephone poles. Just wait.

So how do you explain the fact companies can’t fill positions because too many fail the piss test?

Too many companies test piss needlessly. If it's not safety related, let the quality of work speak for itself.

They only smoke crack when they’re drunk. It’s a drinking problem.

Explain that to the insurance companies.

Explain that to the insurance companies.

What are you claiming here - that insurers require insured employers to piss test for non-safety-critical positions? Sounds dubious to me ... have any evidence?

Ask those doing the testing if they test their own employees. They hate that question!

Which part of "safety related" did you not understand?

Begs the question, if drug testing is so important, why are those in Congress not tested randomly as a matter of routinely?
