In Canada we used to call foreigners, DP’s, displaced persons.
Same thing in the US after WWII.
There were a lot of destitute Europeans from the war-damaged countries admitted legally.
The term wasn't used in a derogatory way - just a term that identifyied a specific category of immigrant.
Just got in from 3 mile walk, then went with hubby on a long list of errands, see I have mucho catching up to do.
I probably missed our Presidents visit with the Angel Moms.
