At urging of Minneapolis police, Hennepin EMS workers subdued dozens with a powerful sedative

Minneapolis police officers have repeatedly requested over the past three years that Hennepin County medical responders sedate people using the powerful tranquilizer ketamine, at times over the protests of those being drugged, and in some cases when no apparent crime was committed, a city report shows.

On multiple occasions, in the presence of police, Hennepin Healthcare EMS workers injected suspects of crimes and others who already appeared to be restrained, according to the report, and the ketamine caused heart or breathing failure, requiring them to be medically revived. Several people given ketamine had to be intubated.

These are among the findings of an investigation conducted by the Office of Police Conduct Review, a division of the city’s Department of Civil Rights. The draft report has been circulated narrowly within City Hall but not disseminated to the public. The Star Tribune has obtained a copy.

Ritalin doesn’t make your breathing AND your heart stop.

In reading the story I was astonished at how many just rolled over when a cop said do this. Disgusting

No police personnel ever administered the shots—only qualified medical staff did.

[Maybe the cops could insert a chip behind the right eye of arrested Mpls folks...]

Eventually, it’s going to come down to just about that. Take the Mark of the Beast and be able to buy and sell. You want to feed your family, right? Your kids are hungry. Take the Mark of the Beast and announce our “world leader” who confirmed the 7-year peace covenant as “messiah”. You’ll just need this 666 tattoo (Greek charagma - sp) on your right hand or your forehead.

But, if you refuse the Mark of the Beast, well, we’ll have to cut your head off. We’re just doing our job.

NOTE: The Mark of the Beast is NOT implemented until 1/2-way through the 7-year “peace covenant” that divides Israel. (1,260 days in).

So this is NOT happening tomorrow, or next week. The unbelieving world will think there is finally “Peace and Safety”.

That is not what was happening here

Your son better damn well not take medical direction from a cop. He shouldn’t be an EMS if he did. Moreover ketamine is only being used at Hennepin. It is controversial at best and has not proved beneficial

The police were waaaay out of line

Read the report you moron

Ketamine is dangerous on a good day. Since when do you approve of police officers practicing medicine? They are not doctors and have no training for making such a request.

What was going here was waaaay out of line. A single hospital is running a test with a drug known to kill people when ODed on. The police aren’t authorized to participate in any medical test. This is outrageous

Had it been you and the police demanded you be shot up you could die or be severely brain damaged. That could happen at a traffic stop

Used all the time in other western countries before airlift.

Causes hallucinations. I won't allow it to be used on my dogs.

I imagine they’ll outlaw guns by then.

What’s shocking is that today, if Obama were that “world leader” (who I do not believe is an American - nor is Obama ha-ha just joking, kinda) you and I know millions upon millions of liberal idiots would do anything, absolutely anything that he told them to do. IF they could get away with it.

It’s a lousy sedative. One doc at Henbepin is running a protocol trial to see if it can be managed as a sedative. It is the only place in the country this is going on.

Ketamine is not used in this manner anywhere else

I’m afraid you’re mistaken. Teachers can and do make such demands. They demand that the child be examined by a doctor who rubber stamps whatever the school tells him to do. That means the kid gets Ritalin because the teacher demanded it. I’ve seen it happen.

When it reaches that point, the school tells the parents that if they resist they will have social services come in and evaluate their fitness as parents.

Then the doctor is at fault.

Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic and completely inappropriate for EMS use. Especially without a medical history beforehand.

This is simply ghastly. I am truly shocked.

Exactly. On a good day with careful treatment it only causes hallucinations

Just because other countries are stupid has no bearing on US medical practises

Whoa there, fellas!

Are you telling me that an MD evaluated the person in custody, then reviewed the perps med history, and then deemed it medically appropriate to inject a controlled substance into the restless/agitated or otherwise in custody perp?

Or are you telling me that a cop told an EMT to inject the perp- there’s one helluva difference?

I think I’ll ask my attorney if any of these scenarios is kosher medically or lawfully. I think I know the answer, but I’d be amazingly surprised if the “right” answer is the latter.

Family member of a lost crewman on the “Kursk”. Berated officials at a public meeting on live TV.

Was forcibly sedated on live TV.
