Trump says he is likely to support ending federal ban on marijuana

President Trump said he likely will support a congressional effort to end the federal ban on marijuana, a major step that would reshape the pot industry and end the threat of a Justice Department crackdown.

Trump’s remarks put him sharply at odds with Atty. Gen. Jeff Sessions on the issue. The bill in question, pushed by a bipartisan coalition, would allow states to go forward with legalization unencumbered by threats of federal prosecution.

Trump made his comments to a gaggle of reporters Friday morning just before he boarded a helicopter on his way to the G-7 summit in Canada. His remarks came the day after the bipartisan group of lawmakers proposed their measure.

One of the lead sponsors is Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), who is aligned with Trump on several issues but recently has tangled with the administration over the Justice Department’s threatened crackdowns on marijuana.

“I support Sen. Gardner,” Trump said when asked about the bill. “I know exactly what he’s doing. We’re looking at it. But I probably will end up supporting that, yes.”

Changing marijuana from a Tier 1 drug to anything lower would open a lot of the medicinal benefits legally across the country.

I know someone who suffers from chronic pain and anxiety. A small puff of medicinal pot gives that person relief from both. That person no longer requires oxycodone. So while I believe the vast majority of "medical" marijuana users are just getting stoned, some people do benefit from it.

Bingo! It will do wonders for the hemp industry and for those with medical issues that CBD oil helps. Might also reduce the court crowding.

It was the only way to ‘justify’ the Civil War.

Yep. People really don’t understand what freedom “these” united states had before it became “the” U.S.

So where in the Constitution is the authority to police within-state marijuana matters?

As I said, there are those who believe the Constitution IS a suicide pact. It appears you are one.

There are many things the government does that aren't constitutionally right. When you can say I won't have to bear the wash from legalizing destructive behavior, you have my support. Until then, it's not just "No," but "HELL NO!!!"

The end of Prohibition is imminent.

Doubtful. This is too much of an issue with the voters Trump most appeals to. In the end despite public pronouncements Trump knows this is going nowhere.

Some evangelical Christians will not support it, but that’s probably the NeverTrumper wing.

My daughter did a report on Dihydrogen Monoxide back just before the turn of the century. We worked on it together. it was a lot of fun. :)

If he puts the Millennials and other pot smokers in his pocket the election is over.

Yep. And while smelly Obama would have loved to remove federal restrictions against pot, he knew it was political suicide. President Trump is a new breed of cat, though. If he follows through with this, it's game, set, and match.

.
How can one justify a ‘war’ against a natural substance placed here by our creator for our healing?

That right there cuts to the reason this thing bothers me so much. It’s why I posted the video I did. We are pawns and suffering the consequences.

Fortunately, it looks like that is coming to an end.

Except that doesn’t ring true...do you know any liberal, anywhere who believes that?

Yes. I made that one up. I was pointing out that conservatives that do that are using the liberal thought process.

I disagree. President Trump is the most pro-Christian, pro-life president in history. Allowing Americans to determine such things at the state level won't turn them away.

Tobacco? It aids in digestion.

I smoke roughly one cigar every six months. That said, I read an article a while back on the effects of nicotine and was flabbergasted to test the claims and they were true.

Nicotine will pick you up when you are lethargic and calm you down when you get hyper. It really does.

One of my daughters in Seattle called me after Washington state legalized Marijuana. She said that a lot of companies did a lot of random drug tests the day after it was legalized, focusing on employees they were looking to get rid of. It is still federally illegal, after all. Apparently a LOT of people were fired.

“What changes are you proposing for OTJ drug testing? “

None. Employers should be able to exclude anyone they wish.

When my wife and I were visiting Seattle last summer, we bought an eyedropper bottle of CBD.

My wife has a real insomnia problem. That completely cured it. It’s illegal in my state but here is the comical part:

1. It has no THC.
2. There are zero side effects.

So, are you saying we SHOULD ban doughnuts and Big Macs?
