I agree with the President @realDonaldTrump: Russia should be back in the G8. It is in everyone's interest.

I’m not sure I agree with Trump on this. It would have to be contingent on resolving the situation in Ukraine. Is that not one of the reasons they got kicked out of it? It’s out of the news right now, but I think it’s still not resolved. I think Russia is still in that country. Let’s remember, they gave up their nukes at the end of the cold war in a promise that the west would protect them from Russia.

Remember though, Russia isn’t just a convenient meme on which to attack Trump.

Russia is a real and existential threat to globalist, establishment, progressive Western elites.

This won’t be rep’d well.

I think it would be good to get the Russians into talking mode as members of the G8. I don’t know if they’re interested, but I’m getting the feeling that maybe their love affair with Iran is over (especially now that Iran is no longer receiving big bucks from Obama, and probably expects Russia to make up the difference).

Any on-the-street commentary that you’ve heard? I’ve heard from people who have been there recently that Francis tried to intervene and prevent these parties from taking power. Francis is already disliked in Rome, and I think the only thing his “intervention” did was make Salvini more popular.

I just found out that the only reason that Vatican City even exists is because Mussolini made a deal with the Church, so that he could get the support of the Church.

While that may be true, Italy got a new Prime Minister, cabinet and government last week. One of their Deputy Prime Ministers is a huge Trump supporter (Matteo Salvini).

Right now, except for Japan, I wouldn’t trust any of the other members of the G7.

"I think it would be good to get the Russians into talking mode as members of the G8."

To me, this is more about national security and our commitments than anything else. We blew it on Quadaffi and Libya. He let us dismantle his nukes in exchange for a promise of protection for his regime.

In the 90's we gave assurances to the fledgling Ukrainian government that we would protect them from Russia in exchange for them giving up their post cold war USSR nukes. We are failing at that commitment right now and legitimizing Putin right now would be another failure.

What should happen is more maximum pressure and allay Russia's legitimate fears that Ukraine would join NATO. They should not be allowed in NATO imo, but they should be able to choose their own destiny (closer to the west or Russia) and not have their country destabilized by Russia. The Crimea situation I guess could be negotiated. It was never truly Ukrainian, only on paper when Kruschev moved it over to the Ukraine. Before that, it was always under the auspices of Russia and has been traditionally Russian land. Russia has to stop destabilizing eastern Ukraine and let the country prosper.
