By federal law, income tax is specifically imposed on Indian gaming revenue. General welfare distributions by tribes from other sources are exempt from income taxation. Thus a split of profits to tribe members from sales of cheap cigs may be exempt from income tax, but profits from the casino are subject to income tax.

It sure doesn’t sound like a fight that’s going to result in a political win, especially since most of that money is just gone, gone, gone.

What are they gonna do? Put em in jail while race baiting Al Sharpton is walking around free, owing millions in back taxes?

What took so long anyhow to get this figured out. There’s more going on than meets the eye. There has to be.

“... because, apparently, the US federal government hasn’t quite raped the American Indian quite enough, just yet...”

Or for that matter, the rest of us too.

Just ask Lois Lerner’s victims about that.

No more tribes. No more “sovereign nation” within another sovereign nation, with exemption from USA laws, and special privileges. Like being able to give preference in hiring to “Indians” of any tribe.
You’re an American now.

Why are we taxing them in their independent lands anyway?!
***********
Their lands and citizens are not truly independent of the rest of the USA. These businesses masquerading as traditional tribes should not be receiving the benefits of being in the USA without paying taxes. It promotes a moocher mentality.

As a 1/1024 Algonquin, I resent what the Great White Father is doing to our native Peoples.

According to Wikipedia, there were part of the Seminole nation until the mid part of the 20th century when they became independent.

Miccosukee

Miccosukee?

Never heard of them. Is this one of those made up "boutique tribes"?

From Wikipedia: The Miccosukee historically inhabited the upper Tennessee Valley in present-day Georgia, where they were originally part of the Upper Chiaha. Later they split: the Miccosukee (Lower Chiaha) migrated northeast to the Carolinas and the Upper Chiaha, also known as Muscogee, migrated west to northern Alabama. Under continuing encroachment pressure from European-American settlers, many migrated to northern Florida during the 18th and 19th centuries.

We pass by the Miccosukee casino on our way to the Shark River Valley national park in the Everglades. Their reservation is another mile down the Tamiami Trail from the park. The restaurants, shops and even alligator show handlers are all staffed by Hispanics as the Indians live off gambling revenue and don’t have to work.

BTW the Shark River Valley park has a great paved bike trail right through the middle of the Everglades.

Soak 'em! Because the politicians in Washington have to pay for all their luxuries! Like Nancy Pelosi's jet--for example! These perks don't come cheap! And Social Security has already been raided.
