Kate Spade has been found dead inside her Manhattan apartment.
The popular designer, who shot to fame with her line of eponymous purses, is believed to have committed suicide.
Spade, 55, left a note before taking her own life by hanging and was discovered by her housekeeper.
She is survived by her husband Andy, who is the brother of actor David Spade, and her 13-year-old daughter Frances. Kate was also the aunt of Rachel Brosnahan, the star of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel.

TY.
Are we just assuming she had depression because she committed suicide?
She does have a very strained look. Many Irish-descended people suffer from low serotonin and/or undiagnosed thyroid illness.
God bless her where she is.
Or steroids from an underlying illness.
It may seem that way to those collapsed with grief and loss, but it probably doesn't seem that way to the person who does this act. As many suicide notes have indicated, they are convinced they are an embarrassment to, or a a burden upon, those around them and that others will be better off without their overwhelming sadness and self-perceived helplessness.
If there is any disease families and friends need more info about, it is depression, and early intervention for same. This type of depression is not the "pull yourself together" or "snap out of it" kind.
It sure beats an assumption that it's justifiable to blame and condemn her.
It was a typo
Possible.
Prayers for her soul.
I had a childhood friend commit suicide a few years ago. He had been diagnosed with incurable lung cancer and after after caring for his elderly father ,until his death ,he didnt want his sons to have to care for him.
What percentage of posts are condemnation I wonder or snark?
Ill wager ten percent at least...probably 20 percent
She hasnt owned the brand for many many years. They sold it years ago to Liz Claiborne.
this is sad. I am sorry for her family
Assuming his sons were grown, that’s kinda different than leaving a 13-year-old with no mother. He still shouldn’t have done that, as he probably found out shortly afterward.
I think thats a selfish parroting of something untrue. You have no idea of someones pain, despair and desperation.
She sold in 2007. Then she launched a new line, this article is 2017. I think it is about the new line doing poorly.
“She sold the company to Neiman Marcus Group in 1999, and stayed with the company until it was acquired by Liz Claiborne Inc. in 2007 for $125 million. Last year, the company was bought by Coach for a reported $2.4 billion.
Since then, the Times reports Spade and her husband devoted themselves to family and philanthropy. The couple launched the Frances Valentine company in 2016, and Spade was said to be so committed to the new accessory label that she changed her name to Katherine Noel Frances Valentine Brosnahan Spade”.
It sounds like her daughter was her life. Then why did she DESTROY her daughters life with this suicide?? Relationship problems? Screw relationships. BE THERE FOR YOUR KID. Who cares about anything else? At least that is how I feel. If she had severe mental illness and had little control, like bipolar, her daughter will have to understand. If not, she was a selfish selfish human being.
I never heard of her.
Reminds me of the famous poem and song titled Richard Corey .
You never know a persons demons or hidden illnesses .
God Bless her.
Good post.
In the throes of feeling depressed one can think their family will be better off without them and believe it. BUT IT IS NEVER TRUE.
A lot - I choose to think of my first post as anger at her choice. But I tempered my response with feeling that even children will need to understand that a mental illness can take over your choices. I had a SIL died of bipolar.
