It may seem that way to those collapsed with grief and loss, but it probably doesn't seem that way to the person who does this act. As many suicide notes have indicated, they are convinced they are an embarrassment to, or a a burden upon, those around them and that others will be better off without their overwhelming sadness and self-perceived helplessness.
If there is any disease families and friends need more info about, it is depression, and early intervention for same. This type of depression is not the "pull yourself together" or "snap out of it" kind.
I had a childhood friend commit suicide a few years ago. He had been diagnosed with incurable lung cancer and after after caring for his elderly father ,until his death ,he didnt want his sons to have to care for him.
