Spotify to reverse 'hate conduct' policy that banned R. Kelly (Cultural Differences)

Spotify is reversing its policy on "hate content and conduct" and allowing music from artist R. Kelly to return to playlists.

The music streaming company wrote in a post Friday that it believed it failed to properly roll out the policy.

The policy was introduced in May, allowed the company to remove artists from playlists for problematic behavior, even if that behavior was not reflected in their music.

At the time, the company removed music from artists like R. Kelly, XXXTentacion and Tay-K from playlists that it maintains in its app.

R. Kelly has faced a slew of disturbing allegations that he abused women. XXXTentacion was charged with assaulting his pregnant former girlfriend. Tay-K is facing multiple murder charges.

Spotify said that because of differences across cultures and its desire to not “regulate artists” it would stop implementing policies regarding artist behavior.

What cultures are we talking about?

Do some cultures abuse women?

Sleeping with and urinating on underage girls is a cultural difference I see. Where are all the “black leaders” on this.

Yes, I’d like to see the tap dance between defending R Kelly and claiming that his behavior is “cultural”.

Oops, did I say “tap dancing”? I was of course referring to Fred Astaire.

There an alternative to Spotify?

Of course. I have used the Rhapsody service for years -- now bought out by Napster. Meets my needs.

This is no different from anyone else lowering the bar so they don’t seem racist or have some phobia.
