Locking guns won't do anything to save lives
The Hill ^ | May 24, 2018 | John R. Lott, Jr.

After Friday's attack at Santa Fe High School, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick forcefully told people of their “responsibility” to lock up their guns. We all want to do something, but everyone locking up their guns will cost more lives than it saves.

A lock only keeps an honest man honest. Others can break into anything locked in no time.

The commie libs can come up with all of the ideas they want about disarming Americans, the public school students will continue attacking their schools and killing other students. It’s all part of the liberals’ new, sensitive and tolerant society program. When somebody “disses” you, you kill them.

Haven’t you heard?

Shannon Watts, who gets God knows how much money from Michael Bloomturd, said that the two men who stopped the Oklahoma City restaurant shooter were not “civilians.”

She said one was a retired sheriff’s deputy and the other a National Guardsman, so the gun-grabber Watts dismissed claims that these were “good guys with a gun,” like Wayne LaPierre once said.

The individual gun lock safes, that only unlock at the owner’s touch or code entry seem pretty safe to me. And you keep it right by your side. We don’t keep our guns locked when it’s just us, but when little kids visit, we do. Except my husband’s concealed carry, which he almost always has on hi person.

A problem with biometric gun safes is that they can fail, and of course they will fail at the most inopportune time.

Texas and Florida both have child access laws...

The traditional rifle over the fireplace could be kept loaded, but was safely out of the reach of children.

1. Agreed. The firearm in your possession is your responsibility, all other weapons you own ought to be secured in a reasonable container.
2. True, Spent years in theater with a loaded M9, M4 or M16 in my bag or on my cot with me, often fully locked and loaded or often with a mag locked, chamber empty, situation and threat assessment dependent.
3. See 2 above.

These days, my sidearm is nearby, my bedroom safe is soft locked at night and my carbine inside is locked and loaded.

The Governor is correct, all arms not on your person under your conscious control ought to be secured from unauthorized users or burglars....

Locked guns would have precluded defense in this case:

Disasterous outcome in Central CA a few years back when older sibling could not access her grandfather's firearm and was unable to prevent deaths of others.

Yes, it will - it’ll save the lives of murderers, thugs, rapists, armed robbers, and terrorists.
