This tweet didn't cause the cancellation of the entire show. Unlike Samantha's comment, it wasn't even made on the show. This cancellation was already in the works as revealed by the speed of the reaction.

No way was ABC going to tolerate a show where somebody says something that MSM strongly opposed.

I read that the people who were making these decisions were saying that the new season(s) would not be so political etc. etc. etc.
But Roseanne said she would be staying on course (or what amounted to that).

It seemed to me that the powers that be were looking to be taking control of Roseanne's show and making it something they liked better.

I'm sure that gilbert's show (which I believe has also been in the works behind the scenes) will be a big hit with that target audience.
