My father in law changed their very Italian name about 1940....you had to if you wanted a job that wasn’t mob related.
My father’s father was going to change the family name. He was in construction and a major contractor in NYC and it didn’t really matter so thankfully it never happened. (He died in his early fifties from eating poorly as all good Italians tend to do so I never met him)
