As Twitter has now been officially declared a public forum it can no longer ban people based on their political speech as it denies those being banned from interacting with government officials.
The left always finds a way to exempt itself from the rules it imposes on others.
Will the judge’s ruling apply to Facebook, Google and other social media and public sites that routinely censor and/or marginalize Conservative & Christian thought and worldviews? Probably not.
This ruling is good news and a step in the direction of establishing that forums like Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube are public forums, albeit privately owned, and must not discriminate. The logical next step is that they need to take their hands off of censorship, banning, and otherwise restraining otherwise legal discourse—give conservatives equal access and play, allow full expression so long as it is legal—not actionable threats, etc. This is really good news. Now we need to get the same judge or others to impose this ruling on behalf of the rest of us. Watch these companies scream though it will likely save them millions of dollars in backing off their censureship efforts.
I know the “private enterprise” argument. But we now live in a digital world where cyberspace is in many ways the same as geography. Twitter, Google, Facebook, even Amazon are the new town squares and malls.
I know there is the sippery slope of government deciding Internet rules, but cyberspace is now weaponized by the Left.
What a great idea!
“A better suggestion: Embrace the decision. Expand on it. Assess how these District Court principles and free speech guidelines can be applied other vital free speech arenas. Take it as far as you can.”
President Trump should congratulate Judge Buchenwald on her “forward thinking” decision and demand expansion of this theory as stated in the article. Give the FBI something useful to do. Sic them on folks that block others on social media platforms. Depriving one of their First Amendment rights is a serious matter!
Shove the Left’s nose in it...
Tyrants used to have things done to them.
If the judge has ruled that for Twitter it should hold through on other forums. Ive seen Trump speak on CNN and people have commented, YET I HAVE NOT BEEN PERMITTED TO COMMENT. CNN is blocking from doing so.
I can block but the President can’t?
Oh, if we only had a blocking device on FR!
Trump had this account long before becoming President, and continues to pay for it himself. To call this”government space” is absurd beyond belief. Such would, IMHO, be an unconstitutional taking under the 5th Amendment.
Facebook, Youtube and twatter are public forums, and are protected by the First Amendment. Logical conclusion. So you can sue them for blocking you, kicking you off, or demonetizing you.
I dont believe that ANY public figure has to accept with profanity or death threats on their social media accounts. As the left cant put together a simple sentence without either, it would an easy fix.
Now, judgetard - go make me a sammich, you ignorant Cant Understand Normal Thinking.
And that goes for ALL news agencies reporting the news. The public has a right to call BS, be insensitive in making their point.
We got into this current mess by our free speech being muzzled
There are a lot of ideas, solutions, that are unknown thanks to leftest censorship.
WELL... The COURTROOM is a public venue.
People should now be allowed to PROTEST in this judge’s COURTROOM without the worry of being jailed or fined for contempt of court.
No, the censorship standards must focus on foul language, not on viewpoint.
It was called Usenet. I miss the days of current-events-clinton- swhitewater. Sure there were trolls, but censorship is worse.
Language was unmoderated so faint hearts were weeded out early.
