With the 2018 midterms months away and the 2020 presidential election cycle approaching rapidly, Democrats are considering how to improve their poor showings in 2014 and 2016. The party has been debating — sometimes heatedly — how to do this. Which voters should they target? How should Democrats target them?
But here’s what’s clear: White voters have been fleeing the Democratic Party, and that’s a big reason Democrats are looking to rebound from back-to-back losses.
Whites have slowly but consistently moved away from the Democratic Party. These recent losses are on top of Democrats’ losses among Southern whites during the 1960s and 1970s after Democrats’ support of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Bill Clinton won 49 percent of the white two-party vote in 1996. Al Gore won 43 percent in 2000. John F. Kerry won 41 percent in 2004. Barack Obama won a slightly larger share in 2008, but then dropped to only 39 percent in his 2012 reelection bid. Hillary Clinton got the same percentage as Obama.
Obama was able to mask the Democratic Party’s weakness among whites by prompting record-high turnout among African Americans, as well as strong turnout from other Democratic-leaning minority groups. Hillary Clinton was unable to generate the same level of enthusiasm from racial and ethnic minorities.

“Women, Republicans hate you.” - does not work on pro-life women who cherish the unborn lives they carry during pregnancy; and who realize that to denigrate the concept of pregnancy by making it a disease that can be treated by elimination of the child - is to demean all womanhood.
Men cannot have babies; women can have babies. why is this condition considered to be a disease when it is a natural part of life cycles?
Republicans voted for and passed the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts. The democrats largely voted against both, but since LBJ was president I guess the WaPo people need to give all glory and honor to their own party.

They won’t because I’ve been in their arrogant faces for too long. They can’t admit they were wrong now.

If the democraps actually did something for American workers and citizens, they might get some support.
I think there is a lot of pent-up resentment from black men towards black women. Black women get double-preferences under affirmative action, both for college and employment, then display disdainful attitudes towards black men over their relative lack of success.
In 2016 exit polls, 13% of black men voted for Trump, but only 4% of black women.

I think the Democrats are going to rue the day that they decided to enshrine identity politics. They are stuck now. Their base is more than 50% progressive, they are racist, and the country is neither of these things. Don’t let them get away with a purely negative campaign when their actual positions are such a batshit house of cards that will do serious damage to so many of their voters.

It’s not the percentage of white votes that’s the Damocles’ (sp?) Sword swinging above demonicRATS, it’s the precentage of black and hispanic votes. If the ‘RATS don’t maintain 95% of black votes and 75% of hispanic votes, they are doomed. Doomed!

The Democrat losses are not confined to only “white flight”.
There is ample reason to suspect that the support of many other ethnic demographics is now less than enthusiastic. There are signs that it is now “all right” for these other ethnic groups to start to think for themselves, as all the evil predictions for Trump are proving to be unfounded or flatly untrue. Prosperity is spreading through the land, and with it, renewed confidence in the future.
And for 2018, what is the agenda for the Democrats? Impeach Trump, raise taxes, end all efforts to secure our borders, and reinstate most of the regulations that have been terminated. Then criminalize activities of any opposition political party, making the nation essentially a one-party state, Venezuela on a grand scale.

The Democrats claming that a meritocracy is in itself a racist construct has many people shaking their heads and walking away. The Dems don’t get it.

If anyone from another planet saw the ads of today,print and TV,they would thing that the population of the USA was at least 50% black.

I would add that the Dems are ripe for a fracture along sex/race lines. If there's a black woman running, and she gets pushed aside by the party bosses in favor of a black male, look for some fireworks.
