The policy adopted today was approved in concert with the NFLs ongoing commitment to local communities and our country one that is extraordinary in its scope, resources, and alignment with our players. We are dedicated to continuing our collaboration with players to advance the goals of justice and fairness in all corners of our society.
The efforts by many of our players sparked awareness and action around issues of social justice that must be addressed. The platform that we have created together is certainly unique in professional sports and quite likely in American business. We are honored to work with our players to drive progress.
It was unfortunate that on-field protests created a false perception among many that thousands of NFL players were unpatriotic. This is not and was never the case.
This season, all league and team personnel shall stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem. Personnel who choose not to stand for the Anthem may stay in the locker room until after the Anthem has been performed.
We believe todays decision will keep our focus on the game and the extraordinary athletes who play itand on our fans who enjoy it.
POLICY STATEMENT
The 32 member clubs of the National Football League have reaffirmed their strong commitment to work alongside our players to strengthen our communities and advance social justice. The unique platform that we have created is unprecedented in its scope, and will provide extraordinary resources in support of programs to promote positive social change in our communities.
The membership also strongly believes that:
All team and league personnel on the field shall stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem.
The Game Operations Manual will be revised to remove the requirement that all players be on the field for the Anthem.
Personnel who choose not to stand for the Anthem may stay in the locker room or in a similar location off the field until after the Anthem has been performed.
A club will be fined by the League if its personnel are on the field and do not stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem.
Each club may develop its own work rules, consistent with the above principles, regarding its personnel who do not stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem.
The Commissioner will impose appropriate discipline on league personnel who do not stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem.
Enjoy!
Too little, too late.
I’m just glad I convinced my husband to cancel our DirecTV NFL package. He won’t be gung ho to watch anymore with just our dreadful Tampa Bay Bucs on.
In other words: The Negros, Felons, and Liberals will continue to hate America but we will just hide that from you Americans.
The NFL is dead.
.
NFL Football is dead.
Long live the NFL.
.
That’s stirring leadership.
Too late, nflol, because you're bleeding out.
Death to the nfl!
If only all the nation’s enemies were this dang DUMB.
If it was a false perception the NFL ratings wouldn't have plummeted AND they would not have enacted this policy. It's not that we're too stupid to "understand" why they ae disrespecting the flag, it's that they were too stupid to realize that they crossed the line and Americans will not support anti-Americans.
Directv lost a ton of money last season because people cancelled the NFL ticket.
Viewership is down and obviously the owners know it. Goodel had to be dragged kicking and screaming.
Now lets see what happens when the players union weighs in.
And FU Marco Rubio!! Marco Rubio supports the Kneelers
Can’t wait opening weekend and Trump goading them
So maybe now there will be cameras in the locker rooms showing players kneeling during the national anthem. Only the location of the protest changes.
I am glad the NFL is finally attempting to address the issue.
Im 66. Watched an NHL game for first time this year.
Im switching to hockey.
No ridiculous play stoppages, refs not overly involved, no pink bs.
This press release should only further suggest to mature individuals that they should find both something else to do and a better way to support better causes.
Prediction:
Game One, SJW’s will be out kneeling on the field again.
They are going to toss this back in the owners’ faces, knowing full well that they will back-down on enforcement out of fear of being labeled RAAAAAACISTS.
The goal of your players should be to put on an entertaining show for a few hours on Sunday. The End.
