I voted mostly Democrat until the early eighties, then became about 50/50, and now I will never vote for another Democrat in my life.

Not Robert Byrd. Not Bull Connor. Not Al Gore Sr. Not George Wallace. They all stayed with the Democratic Party until death.
If they weren't historically illiterate, a liberal could name Jesse Helms, but I've yet to meet one who wasn't historically illiterate.
