My father is Black, and my mother is Puerto Rican. As a biracial woman, I'm very familiar with questions like, "What are you?" "But what do you consider yourself?" and insinuations of "But is she really Black?" And as much as I wish I could say this type of thinking was unique to my childhood or some less-progressive era long ago, it's something I still deal with today. Yup, in 2018. For some people, regardless of their race (and sometimes even my own friends and family) it's apparently very difficult to understand the concept that a person can proudly embrace and claim two cultures and races with open arms. But obviously, I love both of my parents equally. How could I ever be expected to choose one side or the other? How can anyone expect a person of mixed descent to simply pick or try to dictate what their identity is for them?
Meghan Markle is not a stranger to this narrative. The daughter of a white father and a Black mother, she has spoken and even written about the complications that have come with her racial ambiguity. In a poignant essay for Elle UK in 2015 (a year before she began dating Prince Harry), she wrote: "Being biracial paints a blurred line that is equal parts staggering and illuminating." Her race has also has been at the center of the conversation surrounding her entry into the royal family, to the point where Prince Harry had to release a statement asking the media to back off. Even in her engagement interview with BBC which should have been about nothing but her newfound happiness Markle had to address the attention on her race, calling it "disheartening" and "a shame."

Yeah, its an obsession
And why certain groups will be permanently ensconced @ the bottom f the socio economic barrel
My last name is black, so?
It would have been all-black had she married into an African tribe. But their WiFi reception sucks I hear.
OT. Those beautiful horses pulling the royal carriage are called the Windsor Greys. They’re not a breed specifically, but typically result from crossing Cleveland Bay stallions with Dutch or German Warmblood mares.
Fwiw.
“Melanin enriched” — LOL! Love your profile and pic. Everything you believe in is spot-on! Well written.
Many thanks!
Please substitute with malt liquor or ripple, and crack.
ps. Thanks for reminding me about my profile. I haven’t read it in years. I gotta say - I like it!
In the final analogy. . .what race anyone is doesn’t matter. . .the only thing that matters is what a person’s relationship is with Jesus.
MEghan has been running from BLACK for 36 years.
Makes me wonder about him. Why couldn’t he do better than Markle? I guess a lot of people watch the wedding (I didn’t), and for the same reason people stop to watch a car accident or go to a freak show.
True. These nutters are having some sort of fantasy.
LOL...yeah, we do tend to forget about those. Mine is ridiculously short.
What progress is that?
By any objective criteria, the condition of blacks in the US has been deteriorating relentlessly since the 1950s.
The conditions that urban blacks, especially, live in would have been unimaginable in the 1930s, 40s and 50s.
It is true that the lives of the "talented tenth" are in some ways better. But the rest?
Almost impossible to imagine it could be worse.
It's time to do something different.
Looks are deceiving and, as the saying goes, “beauty is skin deep.” She could be real ugly on the inside. The most beautiful women often are shallow and bitchy wannabe Goddesses, depending way too much on their looks. When the looks fade, what are you left with?
Don’t forget the Ripple!
Skin color is the least significant component of race.
But it's true that Africans, East Asians, Latinos and South Asians identify with their race first and foremost.
That's called "normal".
Only whites don't.
That's called "suicidal".
Markle is a 36 y/o, twice divorced, social climbing, gold digging, casting couch slut. Did you know she dated a porn “actor”? She is a total dumpster fire. Harry will be sorry.
