Incoming National Rifle Association President Oliver North says school shootings are the product of a “culture of violence,” not the Second Amendment.
“The problem that we’ve got is we’re trying like the dickens to treat the symptom without treating the disease,” Mr. North said on “Fox News Sunday.” “And the disease in this case isn’t the Second Amendment. The disease is youngsters who are steeped in a culture of violence.” He said everything from violence on television to Ritalin, a drug used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, may be contributing to the problem.
“Nearly all of these perpetrators are male, and they’re young teenagers in most cases, and they’ve come through a culture where violence is commonplace,” Mr. North said. “All we need to do is turn on a TV, go to a movie. If you look at what has happened to the young people, many of these young boys have been on Ritalin since they were in kindergarten. Now, I am certainly not a doctor; I’m a Marine. But I can see those kinds of things happening.”

A lot of kids don’t do well on psychotropics, especially antidepressants. They have a history of causing suicidal+ thoughts in some kids, up through adolescence. I suspect that a lot of kids who are on Ritalin and other stimulants, do NOT have ADHD, in the first place. I have been on Concerta and it’s short acting form, Ritalin, for many years, but as an older adult. It has been referred to as “speed”, but I can tell you, in people who have ADHD or ADD, it does NOT produce the same reactions that speed produces in a person who does NOT have such a disorder. It never hypes me up in the least. As someone with adult ADD, (no hyperactivity), my doctor prescribes it to “keep me out of my head”. Otherwise, my brain is crowded with overlapping thoughts (normal thoughts -— just too many at once). It’s sort of like trying to make a decision about what to order at a restaurant, when there are WAY too many items on the menu, and I don’t really know what I’m hungry for. Also, I tend to talk too much, and over think everything. That’s why I sometimes ask, jokingly, in my comments, “can you tell I forgot to take my Ritalin, today?”. I know of children who do well on stimulants such as Ritalin, but, yes, it’s destructive if taken by someone who does NOT have the disorders for which it is prescribed.

We can't change the public schools by storming their gates and breaking down their doors.
We have to Blitzkrieg them. Blitzkrieg was going around the enemy, overcoming his flanks, and getting into his rear areas that weren't designed to be on the front lines. The enemy was over run before he knew what was happening.
OK. We have to go around the unions, the commie graduates of the colleges of education, and of course the Rat party.
Men—there aren't enough of us in the public schools. What we see are feminists and other female losers ruining our children's education.
I'm trying to start a boys school because boys need to regroup from the sickness of feminist public education.
We men have to dump the public schools that dump on us.
Start small private schools sponsored by churches, veteran's groups, and other private citizens.
I'm in touch with some state legislators asking them to tell the public what the school laws in Oregon are about. What does the state constitution say about compulsory education? What us the history of our/your state's education laws? Who pushed them and why?
Then, find loopholes where private citizens like homeschoolers can really educate our young men.
Go around public schools. Fight fair, and fight to win. It will take some time to get an educational Blitzkrieg going, but I'm certainly going to do it.
Starting is always the hardest part.
But men have started civilizations and brought them to fruition before.
And make no mistake—educating our boys to be men is a battle to save our civilization.

Lame comments, pathetic really. So metal detectors will solve this?! Why not get rid of gun free zones, arm teachers, and let parents with ccw carry? Going off in discussion of drugs, etc., does nothing. And metal detectors? Seriously?!
Such stupid comments, not surprising from disgraced Marine North. He should resign. I’m embarrassed that NRA made him president. So unrepresentative of gun owners, just a partisan hack that hurt Reagan, disgraced his uniform, and lost every election he tried. Now, he’s on path to undermine NRA.

No it saves them from greater harm and they learn how to grow up.
The young boys who were on that drug, did not mature well...I've lost track now. However, as POTUS says the violence of all kinds that are available to these children from the time 'T.V. raises them' to youn g adults with too much time on their hands...and still, parents who are habitually are too busy for them, many are walking time bombs.
