Terrible story. She was locked into some long, bitter custody battle with her ex. Why she couldn’t leave the kid behind is beyond me.

Because she figued HER expiration wouldn’t cause him grief. But her killing his kid would cause him unending pain. Losing someone you love is horrible, and it never stops hurting.
