An "explosive" eruption from Kilauea's summit on Thursday morning sent an ash plume soaring some 25,000 feet into the air, and officials are warning that the ash will cover a large part of the Big Island.

What to do in case an eruption sends ashfall into your community

The National Weather Service has issued an ashfall advisory after radar showed the massive plume.

Hawaii Volcano Observatory officials confirmed that there was an explosive eruption, but still have yet to assess whether it was a steam-driven explosion that they have been warning residents about for several days.

No Doug, Hillary doesn’t qualify for the sacrifice. She’s not a native and she has cojones. Throw in Obama instead. That’s the highest ranking native Hawaiian available without cojones.

On a more serious front, I wonder how much trouble they’ll have diverting air traffic to and from west coast around this plume.

"...That one event probably created more CO2 than all of mankind has in the last century...."

..... Yup ... I guarantee that a year from now, activist scientists will note an increase in CO2 and so called Greenhouse gas emissions and will demand that we do more to curb it's production ..... They never take into account, more than likely on purpose, volcanic activity vomiting massive amounts of the same into the atmosphere with every eruption ....

.... In the mean time .... The earth continues to cool ....

Because it’s a big island and only a small part of the island is affected. This volcano has been spewing forever. We own property about 30 minutes north of it. Headed over there again in September. Taking 3 people with me who have never been to Hawaii and they’re anxious to go.

Hawaii disaster response on radio : “We do not expect to need any federal assistance...”

Well, okay. Ask the imam when you do.

I guess it’s each to it’s own but I wouldn’t want to be on a Volcanic Island ‘spewing forever’.....enough I have to contend with winter snow storms for a few months! LOLOL Otherwise it’s a smooth ride where I’m at!

That one event probably created more CO2 than all of mankind has in the last century.

Excellent point. Can we get the world to focus on this important fact?!

“... the only state in the union that is growing larger geographically...”

Possibly not. Silting of river deltas and barrier islands, land reclamation, and isostatic rebound from the last glacial sheets pushing the coastline out could increase the area of several states.

But this is, by far, the coolest way to do it.

You would have to know the big island to understand the volcano. It’s just letting off a little steam. It has continuous lava flows and never makes the news until a new fissure opens and takes out a few houses. It really doesn’t happen that often.

So will the Leftist Hawaiian government demand that Hawaii go from carbon neutral to carbon negative to offset nature for not behaving as the global warmists dictate?

Now, that would be logical. No flights in or out. No births in the family without a death. And no farting farm animals allowed.

Hawaiian volcanoes are considered low in explosivity. “Effusive rather than explosive.”
This article from geology dot com shows some relative sizes and Eyjafjallajökull was about the same size as Mt. St. Helens. There are far, far bigger eruptions than Vesuvius.
