By 2014, California was the top state in eighth-grade algebra enrollment. Common Core erased all those gains almost immediately
...
Before Common Core came along, California parents, faculty, and officials spent years developing some of the best-ranked K-12 math requirements in the nation. One result of their careful work was more than tripling the number of eighth graders who ranked proficient in math, and quadrupling the number of eighth graders taking algebra.
By 2014, California was the top state in the nation in eighth-grade algebra enrollment. That was the year Common Core went into place. It erased all those gains almost immediately,

Obama administration pushed states into Common Core in 2010, but it started phasing into schools at the earliest in 2013, and more in earnest in 2014 and 2015. Thats right when all the achievement jumps off a cliff.

evaluate how Common Core affects kids, the degradation of math instruction in a country already known for poor math instruction, the especially damaging effects on the most vulnerable kids, the lying to parents, students, and taxpayers about the quality of the classes their kids are taking and were all paying for.

They still need to figger the number of possible marriage permutations of all these weirdos: homos, bis, trannies, cross-dressers, pedos, closet homos, retards, vertically challenged folks, animals, polys, etc. /s
The kids are innocently ignorant but they need the help.
We share stories about the quality of education they receive.
They can't believe that old people can do math in their heads faster than they can with a smart phone.
Wasn’t Betty DeVose supposed to eliminate common core?
They started lowering math requirements when I was a freshman in high school in 1952.
Tutoring was personally rewarding from a doing-good aspect.
One distressing feature was the parents using the “time” as free childcare.
wow, that was like, 100 years ago.
Trying to make a silk purse into a sows ear....nothing like “1+1=2; 2+2”4.....Common Core threw everything ‘cept the kitchen sink in showing 1+1=2 etc....acting instead of teaching.
O.K. that didn’t get you anywhere, try this: https://twitter.com/BetsyDeVosED
I only tutor math (Algebra through Calculus), Chem and Physics. No daycare there.
I’m shocked, amazed and stunned! /sar/
“Thank you Saxon Math!”
What is REALLY SAD is that less than 2% of the people reading this thread have ANY CLUE as to what Saxon Math is.
And because they do not know, I’ll add a bit here:
In Texas, before Common Core, we had REAL Standards in our state, and I went through everything that I could find in my quest for a math program that actually met our standards. And, everywhere I looked, the software/books ALL told me how much ‘fun’ my kids would have learning math. But I had a BIG PROBLEM with that, because learning math is NOT ‘fun’, it’s hard work. But once learned, it is the TICKET to success in this country (as we both know).
So Saxon Math shows up. The books are written by John Saxon, and sometimes, a second person (as co-author). THAT IS IT. Go through the early pages and there are NO ‘diversity specialists’, or ‘inclusion specialists’, or any other crap. They simply have PROBLEMS, ingenious problems. When the kids learn to tackle those problems, they are ready to TAKE ON THE WORLD, as my kids, and your kids (for sure), did.
But, sadly, for most parents - we are CRAP - we ‘abuse’ our kids by making them study OUR MATERIAL, as opposed to trying to count the number of ‘identified’ genders as of 5/16/2018, or whatever.
But the BOTTOM LINE (and this will be difficult for some FReepers) is that the LAWS OF PHYSICS simply DO NOT suspend themselves because a certain ‘child’ learned ‘different’ laws, due to Common Core. In other words, there are ABSOLUTES, and if those ‘absolutes’ (i.e., not Common Core) are not followed, PEOPLE WILL DIE, and it’s that simple, and has been PROVEN over and over again.
I’ve seen stuff like that and worse.
God help us.

100-Year-Old Math Teacher Slams The ‘Common Core’ Method

The 100 year old teacher is under common core not 100 but anything she wants it to be if if feels good.
BTW Jeb Bush accepted millions in bribes from the Pearson book publisher to push common core in Florida and elsewhere as they make a mint printing them.
“Whats with the /s/.”
The “/s/” meant sarcastic. Indicating the message I gave is exactly what you are saying. We are in agreement.
Quick question: does anyone on this thread consider themselves proficient in, and understand “Common Core” math?
Which is exactly what they wanted when they came up with common core.
Anyone else miss the “old days” when the term “close enough for government work” was a joke and not a real end result of our nation’s educational system?
