Jimmy Kimmel: American People Have Had Enough Trump-Bashing

Late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel says that the American people have had enough of the type of anti-Trump humor that he regularly spews and that it is now time for him to “make fun of ourselves.” In an interview with Deadline, Kimmel was asked whether he had prepared a “barrelful of barbs” for President Trump in his upcoming standup routine for ABC’s upfronts.

“Oh, wow. Yeah, you know, I hadn’t really thought about it that way, but I guess you’re right. Hopefully, it’ll be the last upfront of the Trump era, too,” Kimmel said.

“So, I don’t know, I don’t know how much focus there will be on that. I think people have had an ass-full of Donald Trump, and I feel like the upfront is a time to look within and make fun of ourselves,” Kimmel said of his comedy routine for the annual event that sees major advertisers gather to purchase airtime on networks, like ABC, ahead of the summer and fall TV seasons.

Kimmel went on to say that although his upcoming routine will not be a “Trump-free zone,” it will not be so focused on events in and around the White House.

Someones ratings must be in the dumper.

Yep.

“According to polls I’ve seen, it has cost me commercially,” he told Oprah Winfrey during an interview for her O Magazine in February. “That’s not ideal, but I wouldn’t change anything I said.”

"Not ideal" isn't what you tell the advertisers. The problem with the incessant and ubiquitous Trump-bashing is also that it's "not original" and so strident that it's "not funny" as well. When your entire shtick is "Trump is a Nazi. Yuk yuk," you're not going to sell a whole lot of soap. Sorry, Jimmy, but you're in the soap-selling business, and the sooner you realize that the better off you'll be.

Carson - yes, he is in fact the gold standard of the entire genre and earned it - had Reagan on several times, who turned out to be a pretty witty guy himself. Can anyone imagine Trump on Kimmel? And that isn't Trump's fault, he's very comfortable on television, it's Kimmel's for not being professional. That's what killed Letterman in the end. Not. Professional.

And he says “hopefully it will be the last upfront in the Donald Trump era,” which means he’s dreaming of impeachment or worse.

I have read several things on Carson and he was pretty much the loner when not on TV. Even those few he was close friends with had a time understanding him. He was very close to Michael Landon but when he got sick he could not deal with it and did not even go to the funeral.

There is a story that when he was in the Navy during the end of W.W. II he was on a ship that had a terrible accident. He was the one detailed to take care of the bodies of those that drowned in a forward area and it took days to carry it out. It was said that experience forever changed him, so who knows, he was complicated but was a wonderful entertainer with his own set of demons.

I get the RSS feed for the NPR food topic.

Same thing: anti-American grievance peddling culinary-wise.

I generally don't click on the messages, just read the topics, but the last time I did, NPR brought up the browser with four (4) additional tabs to Facebook.

I use Thunderbird, and other RSS feeds, Gutenberg, LOC, and a couple of space/science sites, they don't pull that crap.

Funny, a couple weeks ago I started watching old “roast” shows from the 1960s and 70s. The group of comedians was from both sides of the aisle. They would hit each other with political snipes, but it was all in fun, like their racial insults at each other. Everyone laughed uproariously. No one died or melted like a snowflake. No longer would a group of comedians even ALLOW A REPUBLICAN INTO THE ROOM. Maybe Schwarzenegger, who is barely R.

How did we (the Lefties, really) get so intolerant? We used to have friends on both sides, and maybe joke or gloat but it was as ACCEPTED a difference as being bald or having hair. No one doesn’t let Uncle Joe in at Christmas because his hairline is receding.

Maybe it’s as GregGutfeld stated, so much slime has been poured on the President by the drive by medi, that the President is inoculated against further vitriol.

That kind of self-vaccination is what happened at the election. They blew so much Hillary smoke from their fake broadcasts and papers that they fell for it themselves.

At this point, no one but their toady butt suckers want to hear how racist and stupid Trump is. They’ve called us racists so many times we are not longer scared of their bully calls.

I don’t know either. I was watching some those Dean Martin Roasts a couple of weeks ago and they had me laughing in the floor. Some of the jokes were so UN PC people today would have a meltdown today.

They were roasting Sammy Davis Jr, and the non PC jokes were all over the place by everyone. We collectively have lost common sense and what is real comedy.

So true! Did you ever hear Jonathan Winters do his imitations of black people and Chinese people? He was amazing and amazingly hilarious!

Kimmel must have taken a look at one of his show, and maybe a few others so he knows how stupid and inane they all look and sound in their feeble efforts to demean Trump....

And don’t forget, AT&T wants CNN.

And Comcast wants Fox.

Johnny Carson’s old Tonight Show is back on the air and is a far superior program, dated content and all, than this crap on now. I cannot tell where he stands on politics as he makes fun of people on both sides equally - and he’s making fun, not bashing them to score a political agenda.

It is on a network called Antenna TV which is an over the air broadcast station.
