An MP from Japan's governing party has been accused of sexism after he said young Japanese women should have more children or face being a burden on the state. Speaking at an LDP party meeting, Kanji Kato said young women should have at least three children. He has since retracted his remark, local media reported. Last year the percentage of children in Japan fell to its lowest level since records began more than 100 years ago. Financial and other incentives to encourage bigger families have had little impact.
Mr Kato said that when he gives wedding speeches he tells the bride and bridegroom to produce at least three children.
"We need three or more children from those people to make up for couples who cannot bear a child no matter what they do," he said. His comments were reported by the Asahi Shimbun newspaper.
The 72-year-old father-of-six also said that if he meets a woman who doesn't intend to marry, he tells her she will end up in a care home paid for by taxes from other people's children.

Sorry, Japan is one of the most racist nations on the planet, they won’t be importing anyone.
Sorry, but you are applying American and European nonsense to Japan.. that message is not remotely part of Japanese culture at all....
More likely the problem is two fold... one boys are treated like gods by their parents, and the culture is insanely patriarchal...So women probably are some women are deciding they don’t want spend their life being moms to perpetual children.
The employment rate for Japanese prime-age women exceeds the U.S. rate of labor force participation. The U.S. rate trended down to 74.3 percent in 2016 while the Japanese rate has risen to 76.3 percent. Source: Brookings Institute
This high rate of labor force participation help fuels Japan's economy short term, but long-term it's building into a catastrophe. The more women working full-time jobs, the less the number of kids they have, and on average, that means between one and two (1.4 kids per women total fertility rate), which means their population is in actual decline.
With the average female age 49, almost menopausal, it's not going to get better unless there is a huge social revolution that gets the women ages 20 - 30 out of the fulltime workforce and into serious family growth.
Which ain't happening. It's all trending toward national extinction.
The big techno revolution? Sex robots.
Sayonara, Japan.
The girls in my Sons high school were (with a couple of exceptions) from Traditional Family Homes.
What I saw was a great fear from the parents concerning their girls.
Boys were evil. They were the enemy.
Well, you certainly have an interesting way to turn a phrase, but you are correct.
Think about it, feminism has turned women into soulless shrews demanding this and that. They use their female charms when it suits them, and declare harassment when it doesn’t.
Even those who have been blessed with physical beauty have a very short shelf life for those brave enough to pursue a relationship.
Men, on the other hand, have lost their mojo. They dutifully sit in the passenger seat of their female’s minivan and look and act completely helpless as they are driven around. Men have become eunuchs, ever afraid to act and be a man. Sure, they’ll do just enough role playing to get the “milk” they desire, but they seldom ever want to “buy the cow” because they know what women have become.
A lot of miserable people that has led to societies that are fast approaching their tipping points.
Meanwhile, if their elder-care system breaks down due to more old people than taxpayers, it will drive home to Japanese women that if they don't have children who will care for them, then nobody will care for them as they age.
“thanks to millions of years of evolution”
No.
Creation by an all powerful Creator.
“Welfare queens? Apparently not.”
They are speaking of caring for the unmarried after they can no longer work.
But you are right. If young Japanese women don’t start popping out kids, they’re going to go the way of the Neanderthal.
Some Democrats here have suggested that those 70 years old should not get medical care because it is a counter productive use of government money. Dr. Zeke Emanuel, brother of Rahm Emanuel of Chicago, is one of these.
Japan used to import Koreans to meet labor shortages but I don’t know how true that is now.
One thing is certain, Japan WILL NOT HAVE a Muslim problem such as in Europe. Being an island nation with a homogeneous population & culture does help keep out undesirables.
Well, if I wasn’t already very happily married...
Sad to say, he is right.
Japanese need to have more kids.
So do whites in the US and Europe.
Yeah, I consider them the poster child for xenophobia. My point was based on that. i.e. they would be beyond desperate. :)
Maybe Japanese women aren’t too keen to have kids with a Japanese salaryman for reasons that have nothing to do with money.
miso miso
genki
Are the soy-boy Japanese men up to the challenge of fathering 3 kids?
Exactly..
LOL
Couple of issues he’s ignoring/doesn’t understand.
Japanese real estate prices are insane. They need to end the system that lets rural farmers have 10x the vote and start building more housing. This lowers housing costs while providing jobs, leading to more people able and willing to form their own households and families.
Socialism is a productivity drain. In some regards, setting up a tight socialist system after WW2 nearly guaranteed we’d cripple Japan long term. They’ve had a declining birth rate for years. Loosening up the economy would help, far more than just letting in some U.S. imports, allowing some Japanese men to bring in Thai brides, and reducing the 5-6 layer supply chain that gets stuff to the average consumer.
“Thats what happens when feminism turns women into shit goblins incapable of acting as wives and mothers.”
I suspect you might agree with my tagline.
