Gators are no big deal here in Florida. We have 2 ponds in our sub-division, and each has a resident gator. There are clear signs posted on banks “Warning: Alligators present” and “Do not Swim in pond”.
The gators in our ponds are wary of people walking on the trail, and swim away when approached. Main thing is not to feed them, because that is when they become dangerous.
Maybe there were 'gator gangs threatening their lives and they had to flee.
Maybe there was starvation, political opposition and Economic repression there.
We have so much, who are we to deny then equal opportunity to affordable housing in safe neighborhoods?
Surely they deserve free health care and the occasional house pet.
Are our hearts made of stone, or what?
Do I really need the /s?
Lake Placid on steroids.
No longer an endangered species alligators have lost their fear of man.
IMO, they should be exterminated in urban areas and pushed back into the deep swamps.
those Russians will stop at nothing, sending in giant alligators to disrupt the country.
Mom and Dad lived in a condo in Pompano Beach. There was a pond that was surrounded by 3 large buildings. A sidewalk circled the pond. My parents condo, on the eighth floor, overlooked the pond.
Dad was having his coffee on his balcony one morning and saw a little old lady walking her small furry dog around the pond. As he watched, a 10 foot gator erupted out of the water, grabbed the dog, yanking the leash out of the old lady’s hand, and took it under the water.
No one knew a gator that large even lived in the water.
Fish and Wildlife tried to find and capture it for a week, but it evaded them.
The association put up warning signs and no one walked around that pond for many years.
.. it seen? LOL

I propose that we build The Wall, and have the inner side of it lined with a 100-foot wide moat...filled with these critters.
That’ll solve the problem.
Ugh, if there is one thing I hate it is alligators. Completely skeeves me out.
Problem solved.
-—started to hiss and come toward the person——
My hiking buddy and I had such an encounter on a very narrow trail on Cumberland Island. The island was once rice patties and now the dikes between the flooded former fields are trails in some locations.
The gator turned toward us and hissed, showing the inside of his white mouth. There was nothing of substance to throw at it. It made no move to leave it’s spot in the sun and clearly wouldn’t move.
we backtracked.....defeated by an alligator and thus added 3 miles to our total for the day through boring woods.
A rule of thumb for gator length is eyes to nostrils x 12. In the photos the distance could be closely approximated to 12 inches meaning the gator was on the order of 12 feet overall.
in the photos we had a good
