Mao Zedong's grandson possibly killed in North Korean bus crash

By Ko Dong-hwan

Chinese communist revolutionary Mao Zedong's only grandson Mao Xinyu was possibly killed in a bus crash in North Korea in April that killed over 30 Chinese, according to a report from French radio.

Xinyu, the son of Mao Zedong's second son Anqing who died fighting in the Korean War, was possibly one of 32 Chinese tourists who died when a bus fell from a bridge in North Hwanghae Province, Radio France Internationale's Chinese version reported on April 30, citing a Chinese source.

The report said Xinyu, a Major General in the People's Liberation Army of China, and most of the other Chinese tourists were the children of Chinese soldiers who fought in the Korean War.

The accident also killed four North Koreans.

The tourists died reportedly on their way back from a cemetery in Hoechang County in South Pyongan Province that was for Chinese soldiers who died during the Korean War. Mao Zedong's eldest son Anying was buried there, which leads to the supposition Xinyu could have visited the cemetery to pay tribute to his uncle.

If it is true that Xinyu was among the dead, two direct descendants of Mao Zedong have perished on the Korean Peninsula.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un made a high-profile visit to a hospital where two injured Chinese tourists from the accident were receiving treatment. Kim also visited the Chinese Embassy in Pyongyang and met Ambassador Li Jinjun, expressing his "bitter sorrow" over the deaths of the Chinese tourists.

North Korean state-run KCNA news agency highlighted Kim consoling the accident's survivors, seeing off a train repatriating bodies of the dead Chinese to Beijing, and making an official apology to China for the accident. Kim's rare moves following a local accident and the state media outlet's coverage of him doing this reflected the importance China carries for North Korea as the communist state's biggest ally.

Mao had many, MANY, sleeping partner. Who knows how many tens of grandchildren.

Mao was a real sweetheart. “His policies caused the deaths of tens of millions of people in China during his 27-year reign, more than any other 20th century leader; the number of people who died under his regime range from 40 million to as many as 70 million.“

And yet Hitler (yes a monster) it seems is the only monster of the 20th Century. According to the leftist media. They also ignore Stalin and Castro’s mass murders.

Mao had a fondness for pre-pubescent girls. May he rot in Hell.

Don’t know anything about the grandson...didn’t even know of any official ones.

Called a Georgia overdrive by US truckers.

I used to do that when I was a kid driving my pickup around the mountains of Vermont and northwestern Massachusetts. Not just "Georgia Overdrive", mind you (i.e., putting it in neutral); no, I was doing what TigerLikesRooster described: shutting off the engine to save fuel (this was during the 70s gas crisis).

That was, until my father found out; he smacked me upside the head for it.

It is said to be a dangerous practice which can easily lead to a disaster.

Excellent news.

Very dangerous in a bus with air brakes. The bus would have a air reservoir but that could be depleted rather quickly.

If your brake system has a leak you may not even know that you have no brakes. If you think that you have one good stop because of the air reservoir and you have a leaky system you need to make an emergency stop. You’re dead Jim.

I traveled cross country in 1975. Lived out of my dodge van and carried a Honda 350 strapped to he back on a homemade rack. Parked and camped and took the bike to view the countryside. With a friend and his wife, bike up to the top of the Santa Rita mountains near Tucson. We decided to ‘ race’ down the mountain with engines off in neutral. Got up to over 70 mph. All very quiet except for the wind noise.

Vacation in North Korea? That would be like me vacationing in a border city of Mexico...or Cuba...both shifts*hole places...

Mid-70s dark disaster humor in the newsroom: It was always a bus going off a cliff or a ferryboat capsizing.

This story reportedly came out of Chinese travel operators in China. While it remains to be seen if this particular incident did happen this way, such a practice is apparently common.

The problem with this kind of story would be that the authorities won't announce the exact nature of accident. Further stories could filter out of NK or China later about the accident. People can be careless and cut corners, even risking their life.

All this, just as China was twisting Un’s arm to come to the peace table.

I don’t usually feel bad for fat little tyrants, but Kim does not need this headache. I guess when it rains it pours.

My dad did it often on hills in the ‘40’s and called it “coasting.” We kids always enjoyed it...

It’s fun to think of myself as a “kid.”

I got ten forward gears and a Georgia overdrive.
If you think I’m happy you’re right.
Six days on the road and I’m gonna make it home tonight.

North Korean number station V15 was active at 14:45 UTC, 30 minutes earlier than before. It clearly uses the local time in Pyongyang for scheduling.

Now that he came back from the dead, he has the time to fatten himself further to go back to the dead.:-)
