Progressive Democrats Call For Steny Hoyer’s Resignation After Secret Recording Emerges
washingtontimes ^ | April 26, 2018 | Seth McLaughlin

Liberal groups demanded the resignation of a top House Democrat on Thursday after he was caught on a secret recording trying to strong-arm a progressive candidate to nix his congressional campaign and clear the way for party leaders’ preferred pick to win.

Rep. Steny H. Hoyer, the second-ranking Democrat in the House, told Levi Tillemann, a Democrat running in Colorado’s 6th Congressional District, to drop out because “a judgment was made very early on” that opposing candidate Jason Crow, an Army veteran, was the party’s choice to take on a vulnerable Republican.

The recording, which Mr. Tillemann released to the Intercept news website, has infuriated pressure groups who say it’s the latest example of party leaders undercutting progressives, just as they did in the 2016 presidential race by backing Hillary Clinton over Sen. Bernard Sanders of Vermont.

“There is a battle for the heart and soul of the Democratic Party, and Steny Hoyer and his corporate cronies already lost,” said Stephanie Taylor, co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, which quickly sent out a fundraising email over the dustup.

In the edited recording, secretly taped in December, Mr. Hoyer signaled the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, the party organization dedicated to winning House races, had picked sides.

“So your position is a decision was made very early on before voters had a say, that’s fine because the DCCC knows better than the voters of the 6th Congressional District, and we should line up behind that candidate?” Mr. Tillemann asks.

Mr. Hoyer responds, “That’s certainly a consequence of our decision.”

Getting rid of Hoyer is a plus for America. I don’t care who does it. This SOB was responsible, in part, for the gutting of the Walter-McCarren Act that kept communists and other enemies of America out of the country.

1989 Immigration bill reforms.

That anyone is surprised at this just shows they weren’t paying attention to how the Dem Party messed over Bernie in favor of HRC.

Steny Hoyer is an old line Maryland politician. His district is so gerrymandered that he is politically bulletproof.

Jason Crow, an Army veteran, was the party’s choice to take on a vulnerable Republican.

The old Democrat trick. Run a veteran to fool the people into thinking they love America. Once they are elected, they will march lockstep with the Progressives.

Isn't Bradley Manning an "Army veteran?"

“I figured trying to convince a person not to run was just part of the game.”

Democrats/socialists/Communists are all about control. The party wants a particular power structure because those in the structure want to keep the power. The “progressives” want to control the power structure and they are not in control. So, they will now pressure (and that can mean intimidation) the power structure into resigning so they can easily take over the party. The “progressive” view is that they are “correct” and anybody who doesn’t hold their particular view is wrong. The present power structure is “wrong.”

Incidentally, I think the current structure, which is trying to reign in the progressives, is correct. The American voter is not ready for that much progression.

In any case, this will be a two bag of popcorn fight.

Dims official response, “We rigged a whole presidential primary, whats the bug deal about a House race?”

The Yahoo article tried to make him out as a regular guy inspired to government service by Obama’s farewell address, instead of the truth that's he's a career political activist that served in 0s administration.

Great idea — let a bunch of unelected, self-appointed “activist” ****s with a poisonous agenda dictate the nominees instead. Wait... no, yeah, do that. Thanks MS.

Regrettably, it’s long been “Party Uber Alles” on both sides for a long time. It’s not who can best do the job, it’s who is politically reliable and likely to win. And those voters might just choose the “wrong” one. Like the 2016 general election...

Mitch McConnell comes to mind with his PAC. If Mitch can’t get his way he pays for Democraps to cross over.

Exactly. Our political animals are filth. Not all of them but most.they've lost sight of their duty to the people and have turned DC into an elitist high school.

The civil war in the democrat party, which pits the far left loons against the not so far left loons against each other , is fun to watch. But then when I think about it, they’re all far left loons. Some are just more vocal than others..
