Two years ago, the Democratic frontrunner running for president scored votes and pundit points by reasoning that universal health care among other big ideas being floated by liberals at the time was too difficult: that progress happens in increments, and not earthquakes.
That was 2016.
This year, likely Democratic contenders for the 2020 White House race have embraced not only single-payer, but as of this week, an even more radical idea that makes government health care look like an exercise in political moderatism.
Kirsten Gillibrand, Cory Booger and Bernie Sanders have each called for a program that would guarantee a job for every able-bodied American who wants one. Its a grand, loud, on-the-nose reincarnation of the emergency employment programs in Franklin Delano Roosevelts New Deal. As with universal health care, its likely to be a big ticket talking point in the next Democratic Party primary and hopefully -- the next presidential race.
This is one of those moments of necessity. The Democratic voting public is on fire and ready for a fight on the issues that matter to them. The Democratic leadership is timid and unsure of its next moves even as their voters bay for a brawl with Trump and the GOP. These voters are looking for a new, robust party strategy that doesnt involve arriving at the legislative bargaining table in pre-compromised form, as Democratic leaders are wont to do. The Democrats have now had more than a year to flex their muscles and swing for the fences with their trepidatious embrace of universal health care.
Today, with the jobs-for-all concept snowballing towards the arena of mainstream politics, its time for the Democrats to prove their mettle and their relevance to the voters they need most.

Oh PLEEEEEEEEEEEZE do!!
Amazon has jobs for everyone—as long as they don’t have to pay damages if obese employees collapse as they run between pallets. ;-)
What happens if you’re a loser who can’t get to work on time? Or you refuse to do a task, you’re assigned or a dopehead or a fall down drunk. What if you just suck at your job?
How positively SOVIET of them. Makes sense that an old communist douchebag like bernie would push this kind of make work wet dream.
What old bernie DIDN’T mention was where exactly would the money come from to finance his idea of a socialist worker’s paradise.
I bet it would involve taxing the livimg shit out of an ever shrinking pool of taxpayers who actually earn a living.
Democrats are NOT onboard with Universal Employment.
At least half of them like it just fine there on
the couch, where they are.
“What happens if youre a loser who cant get to work on time? Or you refuse to do a task, youre assigned or a dopehead or a fall down drunk. What if you just suck at your job?”
Simple - it appears then that you’re fully qualified to work at the DMV - or a public university.
Hey, now we have a new ticket for 2020.
Booger-Holder 2020
Liberalism is a mental disorder.
Kommunism!
Oh, a “guaranteed job”. That was a centerpiece of the USSR. And guess what, it can turn out to be wherever and whatever the government says.
There was an old dark humor joke in the old Soviet Union :
“They Pretend To Pay Us AND We Pretend To Work” (commenting about ‘make work’ communist style, and the resulting communist style economy where people had lots of rubles but not much worthwhile to spend them on.
I suggest A Pilot Program staring with REDISTRIBUTING all of Bernie’s (and his family and friends/associates) fortunes/holdings/property/salaries — to be used to fund all these people he wants ‘make work’ employed.
Note — that he and liberals/leftists/commies like him are NOT blocked by law from doing this already privately, but that they prefer to foist their delusions upon others (and maintain their own personal wealth AND get to run other peoples lives ).
“What happens if youre a loser who cant get to work on time? Or you refuse to do a task, youre assigned or a dopehead or a fall down drunk. What if you just suck at your job?”
In the USSR that was called being “a parasite” and had serious consequences. A guaranteed job sure is fun!
If you’re sincere in your adoption of and adherence to the teachings of Marx and Lenin, this is a no-brainer.
Example: 200 people outside your place of business, you give them all 100 dollars to shop in your store, they shop in your store and they give you your money back, perfect!
I think that before rolling this out to the people of the USA, we should try a pilot program.
Put up new signs in all the federal parks, asking people to feed the animals. We could call it the universal feeding program. After all, it’s kind, since the animals wouldn’t have to struggle to feed themselves any more.
