Climate change experts and University of Connecticut students spoke on defining and solving climate change inequality at Climate Justice: Conversations Across Barriers and Borders on Friday.
The event, part of UConns spring 2018 Metanoia on the Environment, was moderated by UConn political science professor Dr. Prakash Kashwan and featured a discussion from multiple climate change experts, along with UConn students Rebecca Kaufman, Wawa Gatheru and Evan Fritz.
Climate change is definitely the most formidable challenge that humanity has ever faced, Kashwan told the audience. When talking about facing the issue, we forget that both the causes and the consequences of climate change have implications that are very different for different groups throughout the world.
Kashwan said the concept of climate justice centers around the fact that climate change has affected some groups of people worldwide more than others, including people of color, women and those living in poverty.
Talking about climate justice essentially means talking about the discriminatory effects of climate change, Kashwan said.
Gatheru said she believes climate justice should be seen as a social issue rather than something that can be solved solely with science.
Climate justice to me as a concept is one that talks of inclusion, Gatheru said. Climate justice to me is gender justice, its economic justice, its racial justice. Its regularly talked about as a very technical, STEM-focused concept, but we have all the technology in the world and yet we still are not solving our issue with climate, and thats because its a social issue.

The only place a more concentrated pile of bull-Obama could originate would be CNN or MSNBC.
The complete lack of intelligence displayed there would take scientific notation to adequately describe it.
Justice.
They keep using that word.
I do not think it means what they think it means.
Oops, I said “they think”. Bad me, bad me.
In modern American, looney-left academia, all roads lead back to discrimination.
Funny that they investigate anything to do with climate change except for climate change scams.
I swear these people just spew words with no meaning at all. It’s like the Marxian praxis based on the reification of bourgeois ontological permutations. Sounds like something impressive. I guess. But are they saying anything at all?
Isn’t there a forum rule that satire stories have to have “satire” somewhere in the title?
But are they saying anything at all?
Yes. They are saying “INEQUALITY - so SOMETHING MUST BE DONE!”
I’m angry. It was cool this morning . Where’s my mule and 40 acres???
What nitwits .
Hark! The professional victim classes are lecturing us on the annual orgy of Climate Justice Day. Only money taken by force from Middle Class pay checks and blown on their cooked “research” can make them shut up.
“In modern American, looney-left academia, all roads lead back to discrimination.”
There, all roads lead to coercion. Absolute control over the lives of others is what they want. The little people won’t willingly submit to their utopian fantasies.
Looking at the screen behind them, I see the tag “New Online Course: Climate Justice.”
Seems to me the professor is shilling for money.
Women and minorities hardest hit.
It's nice the dupes get billing.
It’s warm over there and cold over here. It must be White People’s fault.
They should tell Starbucks about this...maybe it will prompt them to instruct their coffee-making clerks to open dialogue on climate change with their customers, and further drive their stock into the toilet!
I think evil white males should all wear S on their shirt. There apparently is no catastrophe that can befall the planet that they are collectively better at handling.
The weather isn’t fair
It’s 75 Ana sunny here and snowing in Minnesota
To these people Global Warming and Harry Potter are Real ,LOL
DING! DING! DING!
And, once again, it proves my theory that to fully understand Leftists, you only need to be patient and listen to what comes out of their mouths. They cannot help themselves.
One of the finest days of the Trump Presidency was listening to his Rose Garden announcement of the US pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreement, and calling the climate change agenda a "wealth redistribution scheme"!
And, of course, watching liberal heads explode after that, but that is icing on the cake!
Wawa Gatheru sounds like the name of a character from Star Wars.
