Can black folks do anything without scrutiny?
The arrest of two black men sitting quietly in a Philadelphia Starbucks has set off a national discussion about whether there are any places or activities where race doesn’t color the experience. Even something as innocuous and common as waiting at Starbucks for a friend looks different when viewed through the lens of America’s ongoing race problem.
And so well-meaning outrage aside, it’s time that white people in America get real about the way racism — including their own — reveals itself in social situations, usually off-camera.
Looking beyond Starbucks, the mistreatment and subsequent denials of our reality aren't simply frustrating. They hurt the black community in diverse and measurable ways, both psychologically and physically.
For black women in America, an inescapable atmosphere of societal and systemic racism can create a kind of toxic physiological stress, resulting in conditions — including hypertension and pre-eclampsia — that lead directly to higher rates of infant and maternal death.”
The lived experience of millions of our citizens is actually killing black folks. But racism doesn’t require a white hood and a burning cross to thrive. It doesn’t even require overzealous police officers or a problematic coffee shop manager. All racism requires is people who refuse to believe that it’s real and therefore do nothing to stop it.

I listened to the 911 call. The manager didn’t ‘Two Black men’, she said two men.
She was in her right to ask/axe them to leave.
She was in her right to call police if they refused.
Them being arrested, waaaay overboard. Escorting them out should have been sufficient.
These stores having ‘Free WiFi’ are just asking for freeloaders.
Last time I was in Barnes and Noble they knocked you off WiFi after 30 min at their coffee bar.

How is there even such a “thing” as a “non-paying customer”?
We aren’t talking about a coupon deal (come in for a free cup) or even a companion for a customer (are we?).
Every barista has seen every trick in the book. Bring in your own food, your own beverage, and camp out for hours.
Speaking in hushed tones to customers asking them for money.

If you include white hispanics, there are 246 million whites in this country. There are 42 million Blacks. If we were the problem, they’d know it.

Here’s the problem. They were arrested because they refused to leave when asked to by police officers. That’s why they were arrested.

Also, that has nothing to do with these trespassers refusing to follow the rules of a private business and AGAIN breaking the law when refusing to leave when ordered to do so by the police. Get it? That’s a crime. Just another crime committed by a black person, which we all witness thousands of times a day in this formerly great nation.

Pull your damned pants up, don't get tatted up one side and down the other, stop saying MF every other word, stop knocking up baby-mamas to the point where 70% of all births are out of wedlock, stop blaming whitey for everything that's wrong in your 'communities', and most of all, stop being the 13% of the population that commits 50% of all violent crimes.

I’ve never sat in a store for hours without purchasing anything. I don’t go into McD’s while traveling and use their restrooms without buying SOMETHING. I figure I owe them the courtesy. And if a store owner asks me to leave, which is rare...I leave without arguing. Because it is their store & their property.
I’ve just described how white privilege has worked for me for 60 years. From what I’ve seen, blacks who accept the terms of ‘white privilege’ - self-control - are then treated as if they have white privilege too.
My brown Filipina wife also has lived by those rules of ‘white privilege’, and she is treated with respect.
Maybe ‘white privilege’ is just what happens when one obeys the Golden Rule. Not the White Rule, or the Black Rule, but the Golden Rule:
“Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” - Matt 7:12
