This is your brain. This is your brain on race. We can all easily imagine circumstances in which a manager of a coffee shop or restaurant might properly call the police to ask them to remove loiterers. These are places of business. Theres nothing wrong in principle with calling the cops on non-customers who are taking up space. And theres nothing wrong with police asking people to leave private property where they arent welcome, given that trespassing is a crime. When such people refuse, thats unfortunate, but what can the police do but arrest them?
On the other hand, calling the police on two men in a Starbucks because theyre black would be very, very wrong, even outrageous. At a glance, what happened at that Philadelphia coffee shop last Thursday looks like racism. But theres little context. Does the manager also routinely call the police on white people who loiter in the shop? If a white manager called the police on two white guys hanging around a coffee shop, it wouldnt make the news, much less become a national obsession. Was the manager new on the job and unfamiliar with the generally lax policy at Starbucks when it comes to allowing nonpaying customers to hang out? Did the manager have some reason we dont know about for disliking the two men?

Black fragility.
Black privilege. If they don’t get what they want, they’re a victim and demand compensation. I get nothing.
Couldn’t happen to a nicer place than PC-correct Starbucks... (sarc/off)
America runs on Dunkin!
Just like Hillary losing and the anti Hillary vote, Starbucks is losing and has an anti-Starbucks problem due to its snobbishness and pretentiousness. I can’t stand that place, just like I shy away from what the masses consider “cool”.
This is a set up by the black guys to smear Starbucks.
The mind was already lost before the incident. Because of the collective insanity, an insignificant incident is seen as the perfect symbol of all Whites being racist.
This kind of thing is made up in the head, but that doesn’t stop it from being the Most Important Thing In The World for the CEO of Starbucks, who performed 1000 acts of contrition on TV, begging forgiveness for the unforgiveable crime of which a manager was now burdened with. The innocent woman was following company policy, and did nothing wrong. She was fired without recourse, and is now the subject of extreme hate on various black websites of hate.
If the manager had shot everyone in the store dead, there would be calls for gun control, and not a word about the evil crime of murder. Murder is nothing, compared to the imagined ultimate crime of racism, which is so bad that the mere accusation of racism is equivalent to the crime.
It’s hard to have any optimism about the future of this country, when faced with this kind of thing.
Mo money, mo money, mo money. Show me the Benjamins!
Years ago my wife and I got caught in a heavy snowstorm passing through Amarillo, TX, so we got off the road at a Waffle House. After many cups of coffee, we were asked to leave. We didn’t make a big deal out of it. It took hours to drive home to Dallas in that mess.
Yep. Step one of the Shakedown. Watch for either a lawsuit, or a hefty “donation” to that guy’s fraternity.
I always think these things are more about age, sex, and attire, than race.
If the two guys were in suits, there’d probably be no problem.
If I was walking down the street and had to choose between two sides:
1) a small group of teenage to college age white males with pants halfway down their ass
2) a small group of 30 something black males in suits.
I’d go with option number 2 every time.
Even if you’re one of the young males not “acting up”, like many teens do, just looking like one is enough to get attention from busy-bodies, aka the “Can I help you?” crowd.
I'm convinced that most Americans don't give this stuff a second thought as they go about their daily business.
“Black privilege.”
A better term is black entitlement.
Solution: Don't go to Starbucks at all. I don't.
But then I'm what they call an "ideologue-hater".
I hate liberals and their "ideology" and avoid places they frequent.
Or is that against some law now too?
Whatever you call it, I don’t see any discrimination today. There is not a single law favoring one race above another, unless it’s all the Affirmative Action favoring people of color above white people.
Never been in one. Will never be in one.
It is not just Starbucks that is cause people to lose their minds today. The list includes most everything. If the country’s mental state were diagnosed, the conclusion would be there exists a vast state of insanity.
When Discrimination is a crime, nothing constructive is possible, and make n mistake, the animus against discrimination applies to all forms of discrimination as it regards differentiating between people. Discrimination means and only means being aware of the differences among things and people. The left believes that discriminating among people and sometimes things is always wrong to the extent that it should be and is becoming criminalized. Without discrimination it becomes very difficult to proceed socially. If one must treat a thug exactly the same as one’s 10 year old daughter in every case there is no society possible. But this is the demand of the left in order to make the mas of humans an utterly interchangeable collections of parts to the production machine.
It’s driven by their insecurities and envy.
