Attorney and frequent Fox News guest Alan Dershowitz criticized host Sean Hannity on Monday for not disclosing his relationship with Michael Cohen, President Trump's attorney, during his frequent discussions about Cohen in recent weeks.
Dershowitz, a defender of Trump amid his legal woes, was brought on to discuss former FBI Director James Comeys Sunday night interview on ABC News, but first addressed the Monday revelation that Hannity is the previously unnamed client of Cohen.
I really think you should have disclosed your relationship with Cohen, Dershowitz said, calling it a complicated situation.
It was minimal, Hannity responded.
I understand that, and you shouldve said that, Dershowitz, an opinion contributor for The Hill, replied. You were in a tough position because, A, you had to talk about Cohen, and, B, you didnt want the fact hat you had spoken with him to be revealed.
I have the right to privacy, Hannity interjected. It was such a minor relationship.
You should have said that, Dershowitz said.
Hannity was revealed to be Cohen's client during a hearing Monday afternoon related to last week's FBI raids of Cohen's office and home. Cohen's attorney only shared Hannity's identity after a judge ordered him to.
Hannity is a staunch ally of Trumps, and frequently defends the president on his Fox News show. He was fiercely critical of last weeks raids on Cohens office, using it as a launching point to attack special counsel Robert Muellers probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Dershowitz I spose felt the need to salvage some of his liberal “cred”. What we have here is called “Lawfare”, where corrupt prosecutors seek the make opposing politics a “crime”. What Trump is dealing with is exactly what Scott Walker went through in Wisconsin. On your preferred search engine look up “Lawfare in Wisconsin”.
Now (corrupt) Federal Judge Kimba wood was Bill Clintons Attorney General candidate ahead of Janet Butcher of Waco Reno but Kimba had some difficulties with an illegal immigrant housekeeper, back when that mattered. Her and Mueller’s modis is exactly the same as was done to Wisconsin governor Walker’s supporters. Walker survived... and my money’s on Trump.
IMHO he should pardon all targeted by Mueller with the justification and explanation of “we’re dealing with ‘lawfare’ here, citing Walker’s experience!
Nothing, but that’s not the topic we’re discussing. We’re discussing if journalists should disclose conflicts of interest in their reporting. Normally the answer is yes, but no one on this thread seems to think that’s correct and I haven’t heard anyone explain why not.
As long as it brings them viewers/readers, we’ll have to endure it. The good news for me is that my only exposure to it is here.
And when was the last time a federal judge compelled an attorney to disclose the identity of a client who is neither a target nor a subject of an investigation? You can bet your ass that the judge already knew and wanted it to be public, despite the fact that Hannity had nothing to do with the as-yet-undisclosed “crime” that Cohen has committed.
I would’ve asked Dershowitz, “What’s the nature of YOUR relationship with any of the people involved in this nonsense? Shouldn’t you disclose that information?”
And when was the last time a federal judge compelled an attorney to disclose the identity of a client who is neither a target nor a subject of an investigation?
If Hannity’s explanation is true, i.e., no retainer, no billing, no payment, he ISN’T Cohen’s client; he’s a friend or acquaintance.
Big nothingburger. I agree.
Funny how the media isn’t reporting the apparent connection between the federal judge and George Soros.
The media’s description of Hannity as a “client” of Cohen’s is at odds with Hannity’s description of any relationship. A “client” of a lawyer PAYS for that lawyer’s services. Hannity says he spoke with Cohen about legal questions regarding real estate transactions, BUT HE NEVER PAID for any services.
I know attorneys personally and have, on occasion, asked them legal questions just to feel out some basics that might help me determine if I should actually hire an attorney. I would never have considered these conversations to have made me their “client”.
I wish Dershowitz had explained why Hannity should have divulged his non-client conversations with Cohen.
If someone knows the explanation, please post it.

I couldn’t care less about this. I doubt most of Sean’s listeners/viewers care about this. Of course, I know longer trust Fox News and they may very well use this as an excuse to send him to Coventry.
Dershowitz is right from an ethics perspective. However if Hannitys side of the story is true, whats to disclose? Shawn probably asks similar friendly legal questions to many lawyers.
Apparently, this "proves" that Fox News works for Trump and helped him steal the election by pretending to be neutral journalists. Or something...
He wasn’t Hannity’s lawyer! Only someone he talked to a few times about business.
So why was Hannity requesting anonymity and why did Cohen call him a client?
It just doesn't add up...
....no conservative Trump supporter has the right to privacy. Supreme authority Mueller has decreed it.

Mueller believes he is one level higher than God. God apparently lets him rule until the next world, waiting for him to repent.
When do leftists on CNN,MSNBC,NYT,WaPo,et al. make a “disclosure” such as “I gave money under the table and above it to Hillary and Obama’s campaigns, I agreed to censor good news about Trump,I danced at Hillary’s campaign ball (Wolf Blitzer—confirmed fact),and this network has board meetings before broadcasts in which Dem talking points are passed out? Silence.
“Nothing, but thats not the topic were discussing. Were discussing if journalists should disclose conflicts of interest in their reporting. Normally the answer is yes, but no one on this thread seems to think thats correct and I havent heard anyone explain why not.”
He’s not a journalist.
Years ago my brother in law was called to a lawyers house to fix the kitchen sink. While under the sink replacing the trap he talks to the lawyer who is sitting in the kitchen. My brother in law completes the job, leaves, and sends the lawyer a bill. The lawyer returns the bill with a bill from him for “legal advice”. Go figure.
