Dershowitz confronts Hannity: 'You should have disclosed your relationship with Cohen'
The Hill ^ | 04/16/2018 | Brett Samuels

Posted on 04/17/2018 6:33:13 AM PDT by GIdget2004

Attorney and frequent Fox News guest Alan Dershowitz criticized host Sean Hannity on Monday for not disclosing his relationship with Michael Cohen, President Trump's attorney, during his frequent discussions about Cohen in recent weeks.

Dershowitz, a defender of Trump amid his legal woes, was brought on to discuss former FBI Director James Comey’s Sunday night interview on ABC News, but first addressed the Monday revelation that Hannity is the previously unnamed client of Cohen.

“I really think you should have disclosed your relationship with Cohen,” Dershowitz said, calling it a “complicated situation.”

“It was minimal,” Hannity responded.

“I understand that, and you should’ve said that,” Dershowitz, an opinion contributor for The Hill, replied. You were in a tough position because, A, you had to talk about Cohen, and, B, you didn’t want the fact hat you had spoken with him to be revealed.”

“I have the right to privacy,” Hannity interjected. “It was such a minor relationship.”

“You should have said that,” Dershowitz said.

Hannity was revealed to be Cohen's client during a hearing Monday afternoon related to last week's FBI raids of Cohen's office and home. Cohen's attorney only shared Hannity's identity after a judge ordered him to.

Hannity is a staunch ally of Trump’s, and frequently defends the president on his Fox News show. He was fiercely critical of last week’s raids on Cohen’s office, using it as a launching point to attack special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

‘Would you care in an alternate universe if Maddow went on TV night after night railing about how Hillary’s lawyer was being treated unfairly, and then it turned out Maddow had the same lawyer and never mentioned it?’

I’m late in getting back to the thread so this may already have been mentioned. However, there are two problems with your hypothetical. First, no Leftist lawyer would have his house, office, hotel room, etc., raided. That’s not the way our just-us system works.

Secondly, on the million-to-one chance of this ever happening to the Left, no judge would order the client list instantly released. This is nothing more than judicial Gestapoism against Trump. No Democrat POTUS would be treated this way in a gazillion years.

There are still so many in denial about how this is the great downfall & nothing short of another Civil War will stop it. The Dems are showing their totalitarian aspirations & are emboldened as they have faced no consequences!

Hillary is a client of Cohen? He only has three clients. Maybe WAS a client? Do you have a source for this? I’ve not heard this claim before.

Heh. I was “woke” during Dubya’s presidency.

There wasn't an all out war on Conservatism, at least not a "hot" war on Conservatism, at that point. Sure, there were the normal grumblings, but lets face it: Dubya was part of the uniparty establishment, so it was still ok that he was in office.

Hitlery was supposed to be President. It was her turn, as promised to her back in 2008 to get her to back off Obama. They did everything they could to make it happen - pushing Jeb!, rigging the demonrat primary for Hitlery, all to no avail. They WILL NOT allow us to get away with electing Trump, hence the Russia witch hunt, hence the current scorched earth tactics to completely destroy Conservatism.

And here we sit, thumbs in our noses about it. It's almost like we want Conservatism - and America - to fall. We'll be "woke" when we stand up and start fighting back. Of course, the ONLY response should be to completely wipe liberalism from the face of the earth.

“His reasoning was Hannity was discussing Cohen and Trump issue without disclosing he had some type of relationship with Cohen

A gray area I’d say.

The current noise is a not-always-honest effort find out what happened. What did Cohen do, etc. Will the things Hannity says about Cohen and Trump prove true? false? distorted?

Imagine the feds seizing all your records and telling you they’ll know what they’re looking for when they see it, but there going to let your gossipy neighbor review it all.

Nothing about this sorry excuse for an investigation adds up.

What did/does Cohen have to do with Russian “collusion”, which isn’t a crime anyway? Did Cohen actually say that Hannity was a client, or did someone on Mueller’s team (I prefer the term coven) see Hannity’s name somewhere in Cohen’s communications, see an opportunity to further muddy the waters and leaked the “secret client” meme? That’s how Mueller’s team has been operating since his appointment.

Furthermore, wouldn’t a federal judge assume that a high-powered Manhattan lawyer like Cohen might have some other big-name clients? A responsible judge would want to know if those other clients had anything to do with the core investigation before she compelled the attorney to expose them.

Finally, Hannity, just like any of us, has the right to his privacy. I have no doubt that Hannity’s telling the truth. He knows that Mueller’s inquisitors have all of the evidence and that they will, as they’ve done in the past, leak when it suits their purposes. So why lie?

Thanks for the tip. Lol.

If it’s just a consult they should say so. And if it was just a conversation that asked a legal question, then they should say that, too.

But, i don’t think the founders wrote the 4th with the intent that the fed could seize everything and search it for what they’re looking for.

I think they meant it when they said they should describe the item and where it is. This is more like, “we’ll let you know if we find anything...”

My response is to laugh at them in any way I can, at every opportunity. And I participate in a lot of political forms that are populated by both sides.

Honestly, it is very easy to set them up.

Yeah, Trump needs to fire back HARD on that raid. Take Executive action over it, Fire Mueller, and restore the rule of law. Thats what the Chief Law Enforcement Official of the nation is supposed to do.

What I stated happens to be the truth.

Byw, you’ve come after me with your nasty, false accusations before. What kind of vendetta have you hatched, and for what purpose? Your obsession with making everything personal seems unbalanced.

Hannity never hid his support for Trump — he’s a commentator, not a “reporter.” My knowing who Hannity’s lawyer is changes that how?

I find it totally irrelevant who is Hannity’s lawyer.

You knew he was a snake before you let him in.

Yes! I like Hannity, but it's definitely time to cut off the nightly appearances by that snake Dershowitz. Enough already.

Apparently, since Cohen was Hannity’s lawyer, Hannity was likely a Trump supporter, and so he should have been transparent in his support of Trump, announcing it at the beginning of every program.

Forget the fact that anyone with half a brain knew Hannity supported Trump — because he proclaimed it every day!

>> Cohen was not his lawyer <<

>Seems correct to me.

>But on the other hand, Mike Cohen’s lawyers told Judge Wood that Cohen WAS Hannity’s lawyer.

>Therefore, somebody here is not telling the truth.

>And if that “somebody” is one of Cohen’s lawyers, then he or she could be disbarred and/or heavily fined for lying to a federal judge.

THAT’S my point as well. I think Cohen is a liar who’s trying to save his own butt. Both Trump and Hannity need to toss him under the bus and let him stew in his own lies.
