Sen. Mike Lee pushes back against Trump administration’s claim it had authority for airstrikes
The Washington Times ^ | April 16, 2018 | Sally Persons

Sen. Mike Lee issued a statement Monday criticizing the Trump administration for not seeking congressional authority before launching airstrikes in Syria.

“No President of the United States, no matter party or political ideology, has the authority to unilaterally start a war. While the president has the authority under the War Powers Act to respond when the U.S. is under attack or in imminent danger, such circumstances did not exist with regard to Syria,” Mr. Lee, Utah Republican, tweeted.

Presidents don't have a right to use military force?

Trump didn't start a war.

And he doesn't need to jump on him when he does something he disagrees with.

All Presidents use military force when they think it is needed.

Mike Lee was correct to call President Trump out on such flagrant disregard for a campaign promise. It was a poorly staged “attack”. President Trump’s advisors got him to take a step (a small one) down that slippery slope. If he had done more sanctions because of a globalist fairy tale, it would’ve been very difficult to walk it back. I’m beginning to think that Nikki Haley is a monster totally in tune with the Deep State agenda.

How can this administration not know of the fall out that would come over the bombing of Syria? It's pretty naïve.

Of course nobody said anything about Syria when Obama was playing war with McCain's ISIS buddies. Clinton's Libya game was illegal as all hell with the overthrow of a sovereign government and assassination of its leader. Not a substantial peep from anybody on either side of the aisle.

Lee of course is correct on that.

Did he raise the same issue when Obama’s team was involved?

The U.S. Has Troops in Syria. So Do the Russians and Iranians ...
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/04/11/.../syria-military-us-russia-iran.html
4 days ago - American troops are spread across hundreds of miles of Syrian territory, and are fighting in areas that are uncomfortably near Syrian troops and Russian and Iranian forces.

“Mike Lee was correct to call President Trump out on such flagrant disregard for a campaign promise”

Bullslit.

Trump campaigned to not get us into endless wars. He didn’t say he wouldn’t ever use military force.

Trump is not a neo-con and Trump didn’t not go down a neocon path. It was a reciprocal and well measured response to Syrians using chemical weapons, which according to Gen. Mattis there was conclusive proof.

President Trump said he was getting us out of Syria, where we shouldn’t be. Then the staged attacks occurred. Falling for that is unacceptable. The most we should be doing at this point is protecting the Kurds from Turkey and helping to keep the Turks out of Syria.

I agree with you, and at the same time, I admit that none of us has the intelligence information that he does. While it does not sit well with me, I also know that DJT promised us that every move he makes will be For the People, and that he is a man of his word.

An interesting take I read earlier today postulated that DJT took out the McCain-Obama-Clinton-funded ISIS targets, leaving McStain beside himself. Now who knows if this is true, nevertheless, it is a good thought to consider.

Our beloved President is working day and night FOR us, to defeat centuries-old, firmly-in-place satanic forces. Evil doesn’t give up easily. That is why I have decided to just trust that God is in control and will work His Will through DJT. (which happens to be a much less stressful frame of mind, lol!)

Thank you for that post. You are reaching an understanding of this that makes sense.

I'm glad that President Trump is in Florida for the week. Away from the swamp (he thought it was a swamp, it's a sewer) is the best place to be. He can get other perspectives besides the DC ones that are trying to defeat his principles. I hope that Japanese and other intelligence sources can provide undoctored information.

Perhaps President Trump should throw it in their laps then. Either vote in favor of military action in Syria (and at what level) or all troops are removed in 30 days. Put them in the hot seat.

Congresscritter just wants to complain and pretend to be a big shot. They’ll be last in line to actually do anything, either way.

“President Trump said he was getting us out of Syria “

Actually he stated that we were getting out of Syria soon. We have decimated ISIS but they are not quite diminished entirely.

We have a small special operations footprint there to take out ISIS. The recent airstrikes were in relation to the Syrian chemical attacks, assisted by the Russian. That was reciprocal and standoff attacks.

“Then the staged attacks occurred.”

That is Russian propaganda that you constantly spew on her. Gen Mattis stated unequivocally that he saw CONCLUSIVE evidence that Syria used chemical weapons, assisted by Russia.

“Falling for that is unacceptable.”

Pres Trump and Gen Mattis get real time intelligence from a myriad of sources. You get Russian propaganda and it is unacceptable that you fall for it.

I’m not buying it. There were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. NATO and the US did not bomb Libya so “the defeated rebels could safely return home’. The US was involved in enabling indeed staging citizen protests in Kiev, Damascus, Cairo, etc. We didn’t leave Afghanistan once Bin Laden was killed...somewhere else. Syria and Russia had nothing to gain from the most recent chemical attack that happened just when Syria is on the edge of complete victory.
