Sen. Mike Lee issued a statement Monday criticizing the Trump administration for not seeking congressional authority before launching airstrikes in Syria.
No President of the United States, no matter party or political ideology, has the authority to unilaterally start a war. While the president has the authority under the War Powers Act to respond when the U.S. is under attack or in imminent danger, such circumstances did not exist with regard to Syria, Mr. Lee, Utah Republican, tweeted.

Why jump on Lee then for calling him out?
I jumped on Lee for criticizing Trump, saying he didn’t get permission.
Trump didn’t need permission.
I did not agree with Trump when as a candidate he trashed Obama for not getting permission.
That was my focus point when I said I didn’t agree with Trump in the first place.
“I think honest principled criticism from Lee..”
You have got to be kidding.
Where is Lee’s honest criticism of the Mueller investigation which is based solely on democrat opposition propaganda (it is NOT research)? Where is Lee’s honest criticism of Rosenstein for signing a FISA knowing it was democrat propaganda?
I could go on for the next hour, and there would be no honest criticism to be found from idiot, compromised, and bought off Lee.
Still crying your god Cruz lost the 2016 primary I see.
You lost, get over it.
That was also after Libya firebombed a West German disco frequented by American Soldiers.

Seems to me other CIC’s have dropped a few bombs or fired off a few missiles without consulting Congress first. I thought they can do that but need a yea or nay from Congress withing 60 days.
Lee’s ankle-biting criticism of Trump was non-stop during the election. He could have cared less if Hillary got elected along with the rest of the never-trump scum.
I did not agree with Trump when as a candidate he trashed Obama for not getting permission.
That was my focus point when I said I didnt agree with Trump in the first place.
In other words, you criticize Mike Lee -but not Trump- for saying the same thing Trump said.
With regard to this incident, I do trash Lee’s view and back the premise the president does not have to get Senate approval.
I also said here I thought Trump was wrong to voice the same opinion Lee has, back when he did it.
Lee is not a never Trumper. He disagrees with this mistake. He agrees with the Trump of 2013. And so did almost all FReepers. And actually, most Democrats.
The never Trumpers I agree with the bombing. They just think it should have been a lot more.
Yeah...Lee, Sasse, that Colorado POS...
all worthless and liabilities and did all they could to get Hillary in.
Lol, Lee was one of the first never-trump scumbags who was on TV in October 2016, demanding Trump step-down from the nomination after NBC released the Access Hollywood tape.
Yup....and add in the idiot Flake. People think we forget those non-stop attacks on Trump?
We’ve had military action going on in Syria since Trump has been President. Over 2,000 special forces on the ground. We smoke close to 200 Russian Mercenaries just a few weeks ago.
Why is this action all the sudden being debated?
My personal opinion is we should have never been in Syria to begin with.
Per the WPR I’m pretty sure the Pres. has 90-days before Congressional approval is required. The R’s Prez.s have followed this, the D’s not. Clinton was voted down WPR approval for Yugonam and Obama never sought it for Syria (IIRC). Clinton declared victory in Yugonam and withdrew the day R congressman brought his violation (lost the vote yet continued the attack) to a Federal court for hearing.
It isn’t personility. It is principle. Whether it is Clinton, Bush, Obama or Trump, a lot of us are worried about the growth of the imperial presidency since FDR. We would love nothing better for Trump to return to his principles of 2013 when helped the American public to convince Congress to halt Obama’s planned intervention in Syria.
“Why is this action all the sudden being debated?”
You’re correct...We’re there and have been there and it’s strange that Lee never said a thing about the Russian mercenaries.
Once again agree
