From memory...That attack was because he had nuclear weapons. It was NOT an assignation attempt. IIRC, The attack killed his 3 year daughter. He surrendered more or less....and got rid of his nukes.
It turned out Khaddafi’s daughter survived the US attack just fine —didn’t get a scratch on her.
