“Bull dog breeds are one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States today. Getting rid of them is next to impossible. The solution starts with educating the ignorant, not attacking the law abiding for their choice of pet.
The statistics show that the same as with guns this is a mostly inner-city problem.
I have no single solution for vicious dog attacks or inner city gun violence. All I know is that my guns haven’t shot anyone. My dogs are well trained and haven’t bit anyone or hurt any other animals.” - GranTorino

All right. Again, I stand by what I have said.

“I have not come down on the pit bull owners in the forums.

I want realistic solutions, not emotional hyperbole.” - Norski

I am going to consider carefully what you have said, and what you have not said, and think about it. While I do so, I am going to assume that you are a Freeper of conservative cast and of goodwill, and request of you again:

Would you please put forth some suggestions for this deadly and escalating problem?

Your response is important to me. I will return in a day or so.

Ok. Start a church based program to teach people the truth about vicious dog attacks. Have them travel into areas where vicious dog attacks are at a high percentage. Hold educational clinics about pet care and proper training. Offer free spay and neuter days in the communities.
The key is to educate the younger people about how to care for and about pets.
Would a program like this work? Who knows? I do know some of this has and is being tried. People would rather ban something than try to work on the root of the problem.
What’s your solution?
I have attended PR events, adopted dogs, tried to educate every ignorant person I meet and lived through a failed breed specific ban. That ban targeted my dogs even though they were not pit bulls. You know how they found out I had the dogs? I registered them. Imagine that. A law abiding dog owner buys a licence for his non-vicious dogs and is told to jump through hoops so I could keep the family pet.
When I told the county I would not comply they said that was ok because they couldn’t enforce the law anyway.
I’ve done my share. You can’t force people to change.
