Trump pardons ex-Cheney aide Scooter Libby

President Trump on Friday pardoned Scooter Libby, the former aide to Vice President Dick Cheney who was ensnared in what was known as the “Valerie Plame affair” during the Bush administration.

“I don’t know Mr. Libby,” Trump said in a statement. “But for years I have heard that he has been treated unfairly. Hopefully, this full pardon will help rectify a very sad portion of his life.”

Libby, who served as Cheney's chief of staff, was convicted in 2007 of perjury, obstruction of justice and making false statements. The case stemmed from an investigation into the leaking of the covert identity of CIA officer Valerie Plame, though Libby was not charged for the leak itself.

President George W. Bush had previously commuted Libby's prison sentence.

The Libby case has been criticized by conservatives, who argue he was the victim of an overly zealous and politically motivated prosecution by a special counsel.

Plame’s identity, it turned out, was leaked to journalist Robert Novak not by the White House, but by Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage.

Supporters of Libby, including Cheney, have long pushed for a pardon. The effort intensified after former New York Times reporter Judith Miller’s 2015 book where she doubted the accuracy of her testimony that prosecutors used to convict Libby.

Why not? As Scooter wasn’t even the original leaker.

Patrick Fitzgerald should be sued for prosecutorial misconduct, and for mucho cash.

A. Plame was not covert at the time, fact, she published her name in “who’s who in DC”. Not covert so no crime there.

B. Fitzgerald caught Scooter’s bad memory of a date in question as a purgery trap, just like Flynn.

C. Fitzgerald should have released exculpatory evidence, he knew the leaker {original} was Gen. Powell aide Richard Armitage, and he knew that from the first month of the investigation. Armitage stayed silent while Scooters reputation and bank account went bankrupt. Scooter could not practice law for years, someone needs to pay for his finantial hardship.

Fitzgerald and Mueller have a lot in common.
How much taxpayers money was wasted by Fitzgerald?

Thanks President Trump for doing what W didn’t have the guts to do, or didn’t care to do. W didn’t stand up for a dedicated loyal staff member.

GWB is shrinking into irrelevance, and he lives in a heavily Democrat city too.

“President George W. Bush had previously commuted Libby’s prison sentence.”

Scumbag. Bush should have pardoned Libby on the way out of office.

“Thank you President Donald J. Trump, just goes to show you what a wimp G.W. Bush is and how little he cared for the people around him.”

Little georgie refused to even stick up for himself much less anyone in his cabinet. Look at how he never said a word for 8 years while obama racked little georgie over the coals and blamed him for everything. But when it came to President Trump he finally found his voice. I now put little georgie in the same pile of BS that I put all of the obama administration.

Nicely done.

Now there’s quite a few (D)s that deserve the same treatment Libby got.

Let’s get that done as well.

Good. Trump is doing some very important things with a remarkable lack of hand wringing.

More like this please!
