To: Alberta's Child

It was covered in my History class. The teacher brought in pictures to show. It was the worse pictures I had ever seen in my life, at that time.

I remember those pictures to this day (45 years later).

My father who served in the Phillipines protected his daughters from the sights he saw; but he shared the values he learned from that experience.

This is not directed at you personally.

I think Real History should be taught in our education system.

The problem with teaching "real history" is that you'll never get an objective view of it. And when your history curriculum includes foreign history, you aren't likely to get many first-hand accounts even for recent times.

My school curricula were heavily focused on U.S. history and the development of critical thinking skills. These served us well for those who wanted to take elective courses covering other parts of the world.
