The Guns of April : Are we in a pre-War era, right now?
Daily Mail ^ | AP 9 2018 | Peter Hitchens

A pre-war era

My feeling that we are in a pre-war era, and are being prepared for that war almost every day, grows. I am not feeling especially well at the moment, and my days are tinged with a certain darkness anyway, despite the arrival of spring, but I cannot at any point in my life ever recall being gripped by such a feeling of impending, unavoidable disaster.

It began early on Sunday morning with claims of a gas attack in the suburbs of Damascus. Although the BBC were careful to state that the reports were unverified, my heart sank. The prominence being given to the story suggested that it didn’t much matter that they were not verified. Why lead a news bulletin on a main national material with unverified material, if you think verification matters a lot? Surely the old rule was ‘verify first’, then publish’?

Is it 1914 again?

I wearily resigned myself to the fact that at some point I would have to write what I am now writing, a warning that these claims have not been proven, may not be proven, and serve the end of those who desire to draw this country into a war. What sort of war? Well, I am horribly reminded of the summer of 1914.

I feel the opposite is true...bumpy for a time, and then a sort of Pax Romana for the greater part of the world.

“Nope”

You’re right. Wars always go as predicted and planned. US attacking Syria could never bring about unforeseen consequences. Such things never happen

It will be a cakewalk, just as you neocons predicted about the Iraq war

Yes. I remain optimistic that the stupid era of constant war is actually ending. That was a period was good for the Global Elite but not good for anyone else. I think Trump gets that and I think Trump has been working with our traditional adversaries to sell the idea that it doesn’t have to be that way. There may indeed be bumps, but I think we’re heading for a bright future if the Globalists don’t screw this up.

#MeToo. Except it has nothing to do with external threats.

To paraphrase the line from that iconic scene in “Treasure of the Sierra Madre”:

“Proof? We ain’t got no proof! We don’t need no proof! I don’t have to show you any stinkin’ proof!”

You and Peter Hitchens are just bitter Russia’s finally being exposed for the Soviet Union holdover that it is. Once Putin leaves, Russia will be better off too and can start anew.

No utopias will ever exist on earth though. There is only Heaven with God. Russia taught as that in the 20th Century when it tried and failed to build a communist paradise that would spread throughout the world.

Putin is *way* more Neo-Con and empire hungry/nostalgic than John McCain.

Just to clarify history, the assassination of the
Archduke did not start the war. The refusal of Austria
to accept the Serbian conciliatory reply to their
demands lead to the out break of hostilities. The Serbs
accepted all but one of the demands and that one, which
would have essentially placed Serbia under Austrian
control would have been unacceptable to any nation.

Who knows how this will turn out?

Actually you sound a little bit more like Rachel Maddow. She’s even more antiRussia than you are. Leftists have a big problem with Russia’s Christianity

And another, a red horse, went out; and to him who sat on it, it was granted to take peace from the earth, and that men would slay one another; and a great sword was given to him. Revelation 6:4

The clash point will be western civilization v. Sharie’s Law. It will be joined by SJW’s and skin-color tribes.
