I changed mine back in the early 2000’s when GW was still in office. I changed to one of those dreaded Independents. I always voted for whom I wanted to anyway, not for a party. So, might as well be an Indy.
I also changed when W backed amnesty and disparaged the Minutemen heros.
But...I changed back because I wanted to vote in the primaries in the state I moved to.
I guess I still do - last time a real conservative (supposedly, who knows any more!) ran against the career RINO incumbent. He lost, but I got to vote for him.
