Russian foreign ministry - U.S 'smart missiles' should target terrorists

The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that U.S. “smart missiles” should be aimed at terrorists, and not at the Syrian government, as it commented on U.S. President Donald Trump’s warning of a missile strike in Syria.

“Smart missiles should fly towards terrorists, and not towards the lawful government which has been fighting international terrorism on its territory for several years,” Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, wrote on Facebook.

Trump on Wednesday warned of a forthcoming response to suspected chemical weapons attack in Syria, declaring that “smart” missiles will be coming and blasting Moscow for standing by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Zakharova said that a possible U.S. missile strike could be an attempt to destroy evidence of an alleged chemical weapon attack in the Syrian town of Douma.

Syria supported terrorism against Israel for decades.
What’s happened to their country is the result.

That’s funny. I always see Israel attacking Syria.

Syria has been known to harbor terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah for decades.

That attack in your article was because Syria was in the process of arming Hezbollah. From your link...

“We have a longstanding policy to prevent the transfer of game-changing weapons to Hezbollah from Syrian territory,” Mr Netanyahu said. “This policy has not changed, we back it up as necessary with action.”

Interestingly, I notice Israel never attacks Isis, and Isis never attacks Israel.
But the Israelis routinely attack people there to try to fight Isis. Just an observation

My guess is that we have intelligence that places responsibility for the gas attacks squarely on Syrian officials.

We also have intelligence placing Trump with two hookers pi33ing on Obama's bed in a hotel.

Interesting question. Among the vast number of Christians being killed across the middle east, how many live safely behind Assad’s lines, how many have been given shelter in Israel?

I seem to remember Ted Cruz really stepping on his wang once regarding this topic.

No it did not. I have tried to explain to others, without risking my own security clearance, that the intelligence capabilities we have are very good, derived from multiple sources that take objective measurements, and when all the various sources are put together they tell a very complete and compelling story. That is difficult to explain to folks when you cant reveal sources and methods.

That said, on Fox last night, one of the guests made some comments that I would be uncomfortable in making myself. He stated we have the ability to track Assad's aircraft from takeoff to landing. We know the when and the where. So (and I will let the Fox guest claim attribution for his statements, I am not confirming or denying) we can see that Assad delivered these barrel bombs. He also explained that we know where these chemical munitions are stored and that, by design, these chemical munitions require delivery by aircraft.

As I posted in another thread to a similar comment as yours, this objective data and analysis is completely unlike the subjective crap fabricated by partisans in the Steele dossier.

If Isis doesn’t attack Israel, why would you expect Israel to attack Isis.
Doing so in fact would embolden other Islamic states to fund and arm ISIS.
Israel attacks those that have a history of attacking Israel. Hezbollah is not a state. It’s a terrorist organization. Israel isn’t going to allow Hezbollah to have significant weaponry, even if Hezbollah is fighting Isis.
Israel’s stance has been don’t arm either side, because you can’t predict where those weapons will be pointed.

Interestingly, I notice Israel never attacks Isis, and Isis never attacks Israel.

This comes back to a point that I made on another thread. Shia Muslims and secular Arabs seem to overwhelmingly see Israel as their enemy, and direct their energies to either fighting Sunni Muslims or aiding Hizbollah's attacks against Israel.

In contrast, Sunni Islamists (Saudi Wahhabi clerics, Al Quaeda, ISIS, Muslim Brotherhood) pay lip service to opposing Israel, but focus most of their actual resources and energy to radicalizing Muslim immigrants in Europe and the US and to launching (or in the case of the Saudi clerics, enabling) attacks against Europeans and Americans, not against Israel.

Yet for some reason, US foreign policy - whatever the party, sees Iran, Shia Muslims, and secular Arab dictators as the main enemy while cozying up to Sunni Islamists. Iran's brand of Shia Islam is hardly a good thing, but it isn't the security threat that their Sunni counterparts have been.

This hysteria about Assad never made any sense to me from a US or NATO national security position. Obama and Hillary went hysterical over Assad, as did the neocons, and now unfortunately it looks like Trump is buying into their views of the Syrian conflict.

Who exactly is Assad allegedly a threat to? Has Assad ever launched or enabled terrorist attacks against the United States or Europe? No - he's fighting a civil war in his own country.

In contrast, apart from ISIS, the Sunni rebel groups that he's fighting are either Muslim Brotherhood types or Al Nusra front, all of which do make mischief against western nations.

I did no such thing, the people that produced that propaganda works for the government, I don't, I only help finance it through taxation.

I wasn’t implying you yourself fabricated the dossier. I was saying in your statement you were using fabricated politically motivated ‘evidence’ to compare with real data used in the intel collection process. I think you understood my point.

I was saying I don't believe every government proclamation and most freepers don't. Since intelligence is by it very nature secret you have to take the governments word. I rejected out of hand that 17 intelligence agencies determined that Trump colluded with Russia. Intelligence that was produced through the use of the fake Dossier.

Well even the number 17 was a bold face lie.

Hey, I get it. I am pissed at the politicization of the govt much as anyone else. But I have worked on systems and been around the IC for most of the last 22 years, and I was a consumer of IC products when I was active duty before that. The folks that build the collection systems, the folks that operate those systems, the folks that process the data and produce the products, they are top notch patriots, and they understand the importance of getting it right. They know that soldiers, sailors, and airman’s lives depend on getting it right.

Take my word or don’t, Assad dropped chem WMD’s using his own aircraft on rebels in his own country. Letting him get away with this puts our guys fighting ISIS at risk, and says to the rest of the world that its ok to use WMD’s.

You described what I have been saying. There are too many on this forum that denigrate it as neocon propaganda. The truth is, our intelligence agencies know a lot more than we could imagine. It is my guess that the presence of Russia and Iran in Syria is a extremely critical situation and any reason to trim their horns is a necessity for our national security.
