WASHINGTON Florida Gov. Rick Scott will run for Senate, a Scott political adviser confirmed to NBC News on Monday, challenging longtime incumbent Democrat Sen. Bill Nelson and turning up the heat in what will be one of the nation's most-watched midterm election battles.
Scott's move sets up a contentious and pricey battle for Democrats to defend the seat they've held for almost two decades, but also brings President Donald Trump's possible impact on down-ballot races into close focus yet again.
The president has been urging Scott a key supporter of Trump for president in 2016 for months publicly and privately to run for the seat, held by Nelson since 2000. Trump considers Florida his second home and has spent most winter weekends as president at his Mar-a-Lago estate in West Palm Beach.

Cmon Florida, cant you do better than this douche?
RINO Rick is scared of a lying little gun-grabbing loudmouth.
A perfect choice for the Republican Party.

There you go again. The RATS have had the seat for 18 years at least. This is our best chance and you want to poo poo it? Florida will not have off shore drilling unlike the other costal states. Don’t you think his decision to run has something to do with it? You folks can disappoint me sometimes.
My main concern isn’t the senate seat, but the governorship. I am concerned that the has-done-nothing daughter of Bob Graham could very well win it.
Cmon Florida, cant you do better than this douche?

We’ll see after the primaries, I guess.
I will reluctantly support him in the general. A weak RINO is better than an entrenched leftist.
I agree. Except for his ill-advised cave on the gun purchase age he’s done a remarkably good job. Florida survived the Obama depression quite well under Scott’s leadership and our economy is still flourishing. Much of that could be at risk if Gwen Graham is elected governor.
The second amendment foe rides into the fray to replace McCain as most far left senator in the Republican Party.
Scott is a RINO on guns, no doubt about that, but he’s certainly better than Graham who is, let’s face it, a communist just like the rest of the modern demonrat party. I would support Scott for the seat if I lived in Florida. As it is I live in Illinois and have to support a bigger disappointment, Rauner, because the fat plutocrat he’s running against has already promised a “progressive” tax on every man, woman and child in the state should his fat ass be elected by the demonrats and the people too pure to pull a lever for Rauner. Bad choices are choices nonetheless.
I am glad to see it. I wonder if, when the polling starts to show Scott with a large lead, Nelson will bow out, a la Jeff Flake, rather than be humiliated. It is hard to imagine, but, the again, so was Flake’s surrender.
Err. Nelson, not Graham. Same thing, though.
Oh, goody, FL will get another GOP Amnesty Senator so they can join TN and AZ as having two GOP Amnesty Senators.
No.
He is one of the disgusting douchebags who carried Black Lives Matter water and catered to their agenda during the George Zimmerman trial.
A RINO on guns and you have a problem with that? He’s a POLITICIAN. The guns issue will be taken care of by RED state politicians. Florida is purple. Do what you gotta do and don’t sweat the small stuff.
Floridians have a favorable impression of Gov Scott. He is a good choice to take on entrenched leftist Democrat Senator Nelson.
Yep, Scott is probably the best you’re going to get, even though he’s far from perfect.
That’s right Scott and (Rick Santorum too) were anti-George Zimmerman.
no, brah, we all love RINOs on guns and everything else. They’re the most bestistest!
GO rinoS! WOOOOOO!
We need to be very careful with our nominations. No more Moore’s. The House is in jeopardy but and we MUST NOT lose the Senate or we will not get another judge confirmed for the next two years.
And we have Rep. Ron DeSantis and FL House Speaker Richard Corcoran as good choices to keep the Florida Governor seat in the Republican side.
