Days after President Trump said he wanted to pull the United States out of Syria, Syrian forces hit a suburb of Damascus with bombs that rescue workers said unleashed toxic gas.
Within hours, images of dead families sprawled in their homes threatened to change Mr. Trumps calculus on Syria, possibly drawing him deeper into an intractable Middle Eastern war that he hoped to leave.
Many dead, including women and children, in mindless CHEMICAL attack in Syria, Mr. Trump wrote on Twitter on Sunday. He blamed Iran and Russia even singling out President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia by name for their support of the Syrian government.

You can post your stupid paranoid comment to the many conspiracy theories being posted on FR about McCain etc.
It’s like you can’t see beyond your nose.
Funny, there was a time the NYT carried water for the Russians, via Durranty. Maybe they forget their history.
Interesting. Is Jaish part of what Russia alleges to be a US backed rebel group?
Also why isn’t Assad more strategic in his thinking, is he really stupid enough to think he can get by using chemical weapons over and over?
Have you noted that what Berlin_Freeper said is exactly what has happened? It is the exact position many on this thread have taken. That Assad didn’t do it. Even you have taken that position. So it looks like Berlin_Freeper could be as right as anyone, that Assad actually did it, and Assad/Putin were right, many would choose to not believe they actually did it. They would choose to believe conspiracy theory instead, doubting Trump in the process. That’s the kind of crap Russia tried to do in our election, just to cause division and confusion.
Read post 10 then read post 45.
That’s a fair criticism.
However, when one examine all the players who had motive for the attack, Russia and Syria are near the bottom of the list.
That said, I DO believe that if they thought it was in their interests to undertake such an attack, if it would benefit them, they would have no compunction whatsoever to kill innocents. With gas or anything else.
I am not naive.
Interestingly, the Russian Air Force could have killed more, and decisively cleared the town via conventional means. And without the headache. A single Tupolev could have done that.
But from the understandingly limited statement President Trump made today, it doesn't seem possible to acquire all the information and proof that would satisfy all because there is no access - but it seems he still feels compelled to act.
Thanks.
Did you see post 26?
“it seems he still feels compelled to act. “
Just what you want isn’t it.
“Did you see post 26?”
Yes.
Still, a single Tupolev could have done that job with iron bombs and no political headaches.
And certainly without threat of US intervention.
One thing is trump Trump is in the catbird seat. He’s in contact with MbS, those who run the GCC, and everyone else in the region. Remember his Arab summit, and the gulf states who were not there. The current thought that Assad didn’t do it would also have to mean Trump is being played and fooled by the deep state false flag and that he’s stupidly blaming Russia/Assad. I don’t believe that at all.
“Just what you want isnt it.”
What to you mean by that?
I understand people like a bit of banter, but you are starting to weirding me out.
I agree that can’t be possible but someone should put it in a novel.
I think people like Assad think differently - not sure if we can safely assume he thinks like we do. He might not care about political headaches - he’s a bully, a totalitarian dictator who’s killed many of his own people. Violence is the language he speaks and understands.
“The current thought that Assad didnt do it would also have to mean Trump is being played and fooled by the deep state false flag and that hes stupidly blaming Russia/Assad. “
I don’t believe our intelligence agencies have any knowledge of the perp. But they have a LOT of wishful thinking, a fervent hope that it was Assad.
While Assad may have done this, POTUS should not just make the assertion, but provide the American people the evidence. Radio intercepts. Radar tracks of Syrian planes.
Whatever they have.
When the stakes are as high as this, in the past the US has divulged Top Secret means and methods.
I cite the Cuba Missile Crisis as an example.
And the flip side of that is the Tonkin Gulf Incident and Iraqi WMD. Both farces carried out by our intelligence agencies to lead us to war, maybe even deceive the Congress and POTUS.
By Middle Eastern standards, Assad is a saint. Even the Syrian people have now rallied around him, sick of foreign powers tearing their country apart. And Russia has him on a tight leash. There’s no way he could use chemical weapons without Russian approval.
Neither Assad or Russia have anything to gain from it. They’ve already defeated ISIS. The American public have no interest in Syria. Only ISIS and their Israeli and Syrian puppet masters have any interest in prolonging conflict in Syria. They are the only plausible culprits of this alleged chemical attack.
A year ago the jets delivering the chemical bombe were tracked loading, taking off, dropping the bombs, and landing. No doubt about it.
No reason not to believe we don’t have that type of information now too. Trump said to day “we’ll figure it out”.
It’s a guess Assad didn’t do it. Nothing more. I’d say Trump has way better information than we do. And he’s not stupid.
