Global warming is causing spring to arrive early and autumn to come late in many places, and not all species are adapting at the same rate.
Every year, as the seasons change, a complex ballet unfolds around the world. Trees in the Northern Hemisphere leaf out in the spring as frost recedes. Caterpillars hatch to gorge on leaves. Bees and butterflies emerge to pollinate flowers. Birds leave the Southern Hemisphere and fly thousands of miles to lay eggs and feast on insects in the north.
All of these species stay in sync with each other by relying on environmental cues, much as ballet dancers move to orchestral music.
But global warming is changing the music, with spring now arriving several weeks earlier in parts of the world than it did a few decades ago. Not all species are adjusting to this warming at the same rate, and, as a result, some are falling out of step.
If you look at the past history of climate on earth, there has never been such a dramatic, rapid, change in the climate, said Andrea Santangeli, a postdoctoral researcher at the Finnish Museum of Natural History. Species have to respond really fast, he said, thats really unprecedented.
Here are five examples of mismatch, just one of the many threats that species face from global warming, that scientists have discovered so far:
1. An orchids sex life turns bleak;
2. Spring comes early, but the flycatcher doesnt;
3. Birds and tractors get too close for comfort;
4. Caribou show up late for lunch;
5. The snowshoe hare has a wardrobe malfunction.

For two decades I have observed the emergence of ants. They have yet to appear in 2018. Previously they appeared March 5 - 16. Spring flowers are also very late this year. Where is this warmth in which everyone believes?
well you can’t believe your lyin’ eyes- you must believe the left only

It was 4 degrees F. in central Minnesota this morning How does that sound like an early spring? Need I clarify that the date on my calendar reads April 4th!
The poles shifting might have something to do with all the change too.

No global warming here. It’s still HOT in the summer and SNOWS in the winter.
When it starts to snow in the summer, I’ll move south.
The talking heads on PMSNBC are potted plants.
Notice we never see them walking...
As fishing season starts on April 1st here, I can recall weather extremes on this very date in various years.
I recall it being 14 degrees one year and in the 70s another year on April 1st.
So whatever weather you are experiencing in early April .... it ain’t unusual.

Tremendous list. Where did you find it?
Shifting poles are caused by global warming. Get with the program. /s

Lol, enuf said. Still, being a woman, I have to say that the Springs around here have been a month LATE recently.
Somehow you have the idea that unusual equals "never happened before in the history of the world".
It does not.
By now the threat of ice storms should have passed and it should not be snowing in my area. That would be common April weather.
LOL
