A Surprising Victory For Property Rights In Seattle
Forbes ^ | April 3, 2018 | George Leef

Early last year, Seattle instituted a new regulation covering rental property, a “first in time” (FIT) rule. Under the law, landlords were compelled to rent an apartment to the first applicant who met their requirements. If a landlord preferred to wait for other qualified applicants and choose among them, he was in violation of the law and subject to fines.

The idea behind the law was one that has swept through “progressive” circles over the last decade, namely that most Americans harbor hidden biases against people who are different, particularly those from a different racial background. Back in 1998, two psychologists, Anthony Greenwald and Mahzarin Banaji, announced that they had developed a test – the “Implicit Association Test” (IAT) -- to show if people have any racial bias. The IAT required people to make instant associations between faces or names and good or bad objects. They subsequently announced that their test revealed that more than 90 percent of the American public is affected by unconscious prejudice.

IAT results meshed perfectly with the leftist proclivity for governmental control. Since so many Americans are supposedly biased, it’s up to the government to pass laws to offset its terrible effects.

Recently, however, belief in the scientific reliability of IAT has crumbled

A January 2017 articlein The Chronicle of Higher Education, threw cold water on the whole implicit bias notion. It quotes one of the few skeptical researchers (Hart Blanton of the University of Connecticut) who looked into the research supporting implicit bias theory and found it badly deficient. Blanton is quoted as saying, “The IAT provides little insight into who will discriminate against whom and provides no more insight than explicit measures of bias.”

One of the questions on the test: Do you still beat your wife? Yes or no.

They subsequently announced that their test revealed that more than 90 percent of the American public is affected by unconscious prejudice.

Namely: About 85% of all Caucasians, 90% of all East Asians, and 99% of all Blacks.

Seattle, my home town, is now run by Commies, Socialists, and full-blown idiots. Does not say much for the citizens, does it?

Yeah, I’m down in Tacoma. Our major wasteland is King County and it’s idiots. They are not running a destructive attack on Seattle, they re trying to screw up the whole state as the southwestern part of the state gets all the lousy reaction from their little minded gifts. But so far, knock on wood, they haven’t added a state income tax to the rift. Course with their absolutely idiotic property tax determinations, gas tax, food tax, car tabs and many others, how much more can the damned vampires suck out of us?

That’s why applications should be numbered, starting with number 12 or 15.
