I haven’t been a member in years. I plan to join again through my club - this year thanks to these fools and the media demanding an end to the 2nd amendment.

PS - I also recommend that you join and support an effective state-level gun rights organization wherever you live (assuming there is one).

The NRA is possibly the purest civil rights organization in existence.

I too do not share the fascination with guns that many of my friends have but, I came from a communist country where guns had been taken away from the people so, I became a lifetime member when my kids were born.
Welcome!

The NRA is a true “grass roots,” democratic organization, unlike the phony leftist “community organized” groups whose money comes from oligarchs and billionaires.

in 2016, the NRA ranked exactly 470th in terms of registered lobbying organizations giving money to candidates. As the article says, and unlike the Leftist propaganda, the sums they actually use for lobbying are small.

Watching the now abusive nature of militants...

willing to use emotionally traumatized teens to further their autocratic government agenda...

... the NRA ...absorbs the blows the Progressive Left and their propagandists in the traditional media would otherwise be aiming at individual, traditional Americans.

You're right Liberty - we need to support the NRA if we're gun people or not... they protect all of us - we need to return the favor. Great post - totally on target. ----

I rejoined the NRA this month after two decades of absence. I was ticked off that they did not fight the “assault weapons ban” after the Patrick Purdy shooting. I was ticked off at old timers who said “you don’t need an AR-15 to hunt”. The 2nd amendment is not about hunting or target shooting or even personal protection. It is about keeping government intrusion at bay. That is the entire thesis of the bill of rights.

It really, really, really p!$$ed me off when the NRA endorsed Harry Reid. It has been extraordinarily hard for me to forgive them for that.

...willing to use emotionally traumatized teens to further their autocratic government agenda to weaken this indispensable American right..

Fronted by an ambitious liar, at a par with Hellary, who misrepresented his being at the school from the time the shooting began till it ended. God knows what he was doing at home when he was truant from school. And apparently he still is a truant.

Joined last month.I don’t own a gun, but I know how to shoot, and have taken the NRA Gun Safety Class. I joined for a couple of reasons: 1. Mr. Redhead joined as a Life Member in the early 80’s. I wanted to honor his patriotism . 2. My son has a CCW and carries everywhere we go. Even (especially) to church. I hope to keep my membership active, and eventually to afford a weapon of my own. :o)

"When I was a lonely conservative in a sea of liberals while working at daily newspapers in the ’80s and ’90s, I had an NRA bumper sticker posted in my cubicle for everyone to see."

Good man, Rod Thompson! And to the chickens who avoided putting the decals on their vehicles, put a camera or two on your vehicle. Those cameras are cheap now. And put those decals on your windows and/or stickers on your bumpers. Let's show some strength as in numbers. Many of us will ID anyone messing with your cars now and will call the cops.

The NRA is fine. As an organization, it's mainly focused on safety, range time and sport. Yeah they send out screaming fundraising letters that highlights gun control and similar things, but it's really not their primary focus, and never really has been. Their biggest stick, as mentioned in the article are the number of members who spend their own hard-earned money to join. Unfortunately, there are many higherups in the NRA that bear more resemblance to the GOPe than what you'd expect. They'll go all squishy when given half a chance.

That said, if you're an American concerned about liberty, you should be a member, even when the NRA goes squishy. However, there are other groups that are quite a bit more hardcore that deserve your support as well, if you can afford it.

One of my absolute favorites, because they don't back down at all from the racist origins of gun control is Jews for the Preservation of Firearm Ownership (JPFO). Thankfully, you don't have to be Jewish to be a member, which would rule me out. Their style of hard-hitting advocacy is something I really respect and admire.

Another great group is Gun Owners of America (GOA). Like JPFO, GOA is quite a bit more in your face than the NRA ever even thinks of being. GOA does not have the word "compromise" in their vocabulary, except perhaps as a swear word. They are worth checking out if you already haven't, and supporting if you can.

There are all kinds of groups lobbying against your Second Amendment rights, including many organizations related to medical work (because of their PC indoctrination in universities). That’s who its important to join organizations like the NRA and to defend your rights by corresponding with legislators about every related bill.

Police Departments & Fraternal Group Oppose ‘2nd Amendment Preservation Act’ (including sheriff’s departments).

I have generally been reluctant to be a joiner. I did support FreeRepublic. I decided to join the NRA when Obama became president. I reupped this year after Parkland.
