The Maryland high school student who fatally shot his ex-girlfriend and injured another student also killed himself, authorities said.
Austin Rollins, 17, shot himself in the head when he was confronted by school resource officer Blaine Gaskill during the March 20 school shooting, the St. Marys County Sheriffs Office said Monday.
Gaskill had arrived within a minute of Rollins shooting 16-year-old Jaelynn Willey in a hallway at Great Mills High School. A shot Gaskill fired struck the Glock handgun in Rollins hand.
Rollins held the gun, which Gaskill had ordered him to drop, to his head, student witnesses told WJLA.
Gaskill was not injured.
The teen girl was left brain-dead and taken off life support two days after the attack.
Desmond Barnes, a 14-year-old victim, was shot in his right thigh in the same hallway as Willey.
I was just shot at my school, he said in a 911 call released Monday, where he had to repeat himself to the dispatcher, saying again, I was just shot at my school.
Investigators said the single shot fired by Rollins hit both Willey and Barnes.

Irrelevant. Had Mr. Gaskill not confronted Rollins, the shooting would most likely have continued.
Symantics.
Good guy with gun confronts bad guy with gun.
Bad guy takes himself out instead of giving the Good Guy (who, by the way, offered the bad guy a chance to live) the opportunity.
So yes, NYT, the Good Guy with a Gun DID stop this.
A distinction without a difference.
Splellink. ungh.
The media spin is disgusting. He shot himself BECAUSE he was confronted by an armed good guy.
YEP
The good guy DID shot the shooter. May not have killem him, but so what? He stopped him.
Can you imagine the carnage if there was no officer with a gun on campus?
Stoopid stoopid headline..... obviously the shootings could have continued had the officer not confronted the shooter. The “intervention” of the “armed good guy” was every bit as crucial whether or not the good guy fired the shot.
Another example of how agitated wimps wilt quickly when confronted.
Close enough for me. He would not have suicided if he had not been threatened.
? for the Hog Wild Useles Idiots .
Would he have shot himself in the head if that cop didnt have a bead on him ?
Kinda doubt it
Before or after Rollins "shot himself in the head"?
That is a shame. I had not heard this.
It’s a double win. The officer will not have the guilt of having shot a kid no matter how badly he needed to be put down and the kid will not get into Heaven because he offed himself.
The most important fact: Rollins did not harm anyone else after he was confronted by the officer.
The Resources officer pursued, confronted, and fired. Everything else is irrelevant. He did his job, he protected the lives around him, and knowingly put his life in jeopardy for the benefit of others.
Well done.
