Discretion is pure gold.
I remember reading about the French diplomat, Talleyrand. People who had met him were unanimous in their assessment that he was almost totally silent.
But it was somehow a thing he accomplished without making anyone uncomfortable. People who left his company realized after all that he said almost nothing...but succeeded in getting THEM to talk and in many cases ... to say more than they intended or should have.
Discretion like that is pure gold.
Talleyrand:
Most famous quotation: “They have learned nothing, and forgotten nothing” (of the Bourbons)
This one apropos: “Women sometimes forgive a man who forces the opportunity, but never a man who misses one.”
And my favorite: “Black as the devil, Hot as hell, Pure as an angel, Sweet as love” on the perfect coffee
Wish I had some of that.
