Probably a lack of convenient American dealerships kept sales low. I’d hate to break down near the border and go looking for Corvette parts.

American cars are a niche product in Asia. The same is true for Europe. It won’t be mass market for US automakers ever and it is more a cultural issue than a matter of price competition.

In Latin America and Russia American cars are OK for the local taste but still lose to Asian makers due to a poor marketing by American companies.
